NFL trade could help Mustangs

Post by PonyPride »

Per ESPN.com:

The Houston Texans traded wide receiver John Metchie III to the Philadelphia Eagles, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday.
The Texans received tight end Harrison Bryant and a fifth-round draft pick in exchange for Metchie and a sixth-round pick, sources told ESPN.

Why do PonyFans care? Because the Eagles have two Mustangs — Grant Calcaterra and Kylen Granson — among the six tight ends on their roster, and considering the fact that Philly carried four on its roster for much of the season last year, this deal increased the chances that both could end up on the roster.

Among the others, Dallas Goedert is the clear starter, with a $10 million salary to back up that claim. That means there are five players vying for probably three positions: Calcaterra, Granson (who signed a one-year deal as a free agent this offseason after starting his career with the Indianapolis Colts), converted former wide receiver E.J. Jenkins, Cameron Latu and Nick Muse. All three of the non-Mustangs were on NFL practice squads in 2024 — Jenkins and Muse in Philly, Latu with the Cleveland Browns.

No, the trade doesn't guarantee a spot for Calcaterra or Granson, but there is one fewer challenger in training camp for those spots.
PonyFans.com ... is really the premier place for Mustang talk on the Web.
