Some of you supported Rice's efforts to keep D-1A sports. The attached article acknowledges the effects your efforts had on this endeavor. Thanks again from all friends of Rice.

Great, great news! Since we don't have a baseball team here at SMU, I've adopted the Owls as my collegiate team. I encourage others here on the board to do the same. (Beats TCU)

...and, of course, that so-called investigative reporter at Channel 11 in Houston (Anna Werner) used the opportunity to try and kick Rice down even further during this time with her 'exclusive' report on athletic recruits being taken to strip bars around Houston to sway their opinion on where to come to school. I certainly hope someone at Rice had the gonads to call her up and throw the decision on Rice athletics in her face! Of course, I doubt she or Channel 11 (worst TV sports department in Houston) had the gonads to even cover the story. Congrats to Rice!

Well, I'd almost root for the Yankees before I'd root for the little froggies, so that's not saying a whole lot. But I'm like you, I adopted the Owls for baseball -- even bought a hat. I got hooked when I watched them in the CWS last year and that 6'9" pitcher (Niemann? Newman? something like that) just blew people away. He's not just a big guy with an arm, he's an exceptional pitcher. I've always admired the academic institution that is Rice, and to see them slip out of D-I would have been a dark day. We're all better off that the Owls will remain in D-IA and will join us in C-USA. Congratulations to all Rice athletes.
