SMU top WAC school for the fifth consecutive year
Dallas, Texas - SMU finished the 2003-04 athletic season ranked 43rd in the United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup Division I final standings, in an announcement made Sunday. The Mustangs compiled 442.5 points during the course of the year. For the fifth straight year, SMU topped all WAC schools. Boise State was the next highest-ranked WAC school with 256.25 points - good for 66th place. SMU placed third among Texas schools and sixth among private schools.
Stanford University continued its record winning streak in the United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup competition for the NCAA Division I by winning its 10th consecutive award, presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), United States Sports Academy and USA TODAY to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country.
Although the Division I race will not conclude until late June, after the conclusion of the NCAA College World Series, Stanford has already clinched the United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup.
Developed as a joint effort between USA TODAY and NACDA, the United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup program is the only all-sports competition that recognizes the institution in each of the four categories with the best overall athletics program. Of the 327 eligible colleges and universities in the NCAA Division I, a total of 274 (84 percent) scored points in the United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup competition.
NACDA, which is now in its 39th year, is the professional and educational association for more than 6,100 college athletics directors, associates, assistants and conference commissioners at more than 1,600 institutions throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. Through its series of management seminars, clinics and workshops and publication of the bi-monthly magazine Athletics Administration, NACDA offers educational opportunities to its members. More than 1,200 athletics administrators annually attend the NACDA Convention. Additionally, the Association operates the NACDA Directors' Cup program, which honors the all-sports champion in each of the NCAA Divisions -- I, II, III -- and the NAIA, for a total of four trophies.

SMU in WAC Commissioner's Cup
Within the WAC, SMU came in second according to their conference commissioner's cup ratings. Either way, our minor sports balanced the record for the money sports in the all sports totals. But if you don't win in FB and BB, then it really doesn't matter these days does it.

We were second in the WAC Cup, because it only counts the sports where we compete in the WAC. Overall, SMU was third amongst non-BCS schools, not bad for a pathetic year in SMU athletics.
26. BYU
30. Princeton
43. SMU

WAC only grades WAC sports (no baseball for us hurts).Sam I Am wrote:Within the WAC, SMU came in second according to their conference commissioner's cup ratings.
