New Player? Walk-on?
I quickly glanced at the Sports Section this morning concerning the Texas High School All-Star Game. I believe it referred to a LB named Darrly Taylor from Odessa and listed SMU as the school where he is going. Late scholarship? Walk-on?
From the Ozona Stockman:

Jarryd Taylor has been selected to play in the Texas High School Coaches Association All Star Football Game Tuesday at Rice Stadium in Houston.
Jarryd will play for the North All Star Team. The North Team is chosen from Districts 1-16 in all classes, which includes 5A through 1A. The South Team is chosen from Districts 17-32.
The game will be televised live on the Fox Sports Network, locally on cable channel 26.
Jarryd, a 2004 Ozona High School graduate, competed on the Lions varsity football team all through high school. He was named second team All District as a linebacker, first team All District as linebacker and runningback, District 2-AA MVP, All West Texas, All West Texas Super Team, second team All State linebacker, District 2-AA Offensive MVB, honorable mention All State runningback and linebacker, Academic All District and Academic All State.
He led the Lions in rushing and tackles his junior and senior years.
Jarryd will play football this fall for Southern Methodist University.
He would like to thank those who sponsored him for this game: Crockett County Consolidated Common School District, the San Angelo Standard-Times, Mejor Que Nada restaurant and Anadarko Petroleum.
As for the question, beats me.

Questions I had too, which were first brought up by Stallion. Is he scholarship or walk-on? Where did this come from that it is recent news?
Maybe he is a running back, but on defense, I have read the kid could make a strong saftey. I like that he lettered in multiple sports, which seems to indicate that he is at least dedicated and athletic. Also sounds like a bruiser.
Go Ponies!

Ozona is on the other side of B.F.E. That's hard scrabble country, west of Kerrville and Junction on Interstate 10. Glad to see this kid is coming to The Hilltop! He'll be tough! Most of those kids out there usually go to a school like Sul Ross State in Alpine or Texas State (formerly Southwest Texas State) in San Marcos or Texas A&M-Kingsville (formerly Texas A&I University). Welcome to The Hilltop, Mr. Taylor!

there are only a handful of LBs in high school who end up in the secondary in college-generally college coaches recruit talented tall Safeties and turn them into LBs in college after a couple of years of weight training. I guess we have one in Wilton McCray who might go that route but my guess he too eventually will be a LB.

The Arp WR is Blake Warren.
OL Kenard Burley comes from 2A Scurry-Rosser.
