after leaving the hilltop, he transfered to junior college in Florida--he can not practice with the team until the summer--however, he was recruited by UF as well as offered scholarships at UCF and Nebraska. Log on to www.oneononekicking.com to check out his performance at a recent combine.

I agree! Most people did not realize how exceptional McMurtray was--including our coaching staff. He has worked out for the Cowboys last week, and the Patriots and many other NFL teams are showing interest. In addition, Greg Taussig, who transfered after his Freshman year to Univ of Florida appears ...

Congratulations to the most consistent part of the program the last 2 seasons. Mcmurtray is a huge weapon and will hopefully have a chance to play on Sundays next year. Hopefully, Ryan Wolcott will get his chance next season to fill Chris' shoes.

McMurtray is an outstanding kicker! Hopefully, we will be in a position to kick a lot more FGs this year--it's hard to go for three points when we are often trailing by over 20. If given more reps, everyone will see what an excellent weapon he is. Some people judge a kid by a single missed attempt 2 ...

breakout players

Chris Mcmurtray is a real weapon--hopefully he will get a lot more chances to show what he is capable of as the team improves this year. He only missed 1 FG last year and was 5 for 5 in the spring game with a 48 yarder that would have been good from 60!

I agree. Many of our redshirts from last year will make huge impacts this year allowing us to redshirt most of our newest class to allow an additional year of physical and football maturity. Coach Faucette has done a great job in preparing many of our players who were not physically ready to excel ...

Even if Bennett had his QB position filled, there is no need to alienate a proven high school coach who might be a potential source of top notch recruits (Borcky's players' sucess speaks for itself). It is not hard to return a phone call, especially in view of our current plight at SMU. As for the ...

The coaching staff IS part of the problem. Coach Tim Borcky of powerhouse Lake highland Prep in Orlando (He has graduated Max Starks- Univ of Florida and currently a rookie with the Steelers, Billy Palmer- Notre Dame starting TE, Decory Bryant--AllSEC at Georgia, Brian Stamper- unanimous AL frosh ...

starting fresh

I agree. Time to reevaluate our present talent which is the responsibility of the coaching staff. We have some good athletes who may be playing out of position--our secondary is weak--any chance of some receivers etc stepping up as defensive backs? It can not get any worse--time to evaluate is now ...

new kicker

No way we need to "share" a kicker. McMurtryhas another year and we have some big legs in this year's freshman class that are practicing daily.

the kickers you may be watching are some invited walk-ons who started practice on 8/19--the coaches have not seen any of these kids kick since they go off on their own to practice. To the best of my knowledge, no coach has watched these kids perform. It is understandable that the coaches have more ...

After a winless season and with a young team, the fact that virtually all positions are up for grabs is a great motivator. Competition makes the stronger candidates better.

SMU WILL be better this year. The Mustangs are obviously not a bowl team yet but stay tuned. As far as "15 seconds on ESPN" are concerned, rest assured those days are coming. One of the reasons Greg Taussig chose SMU over Vanderbilt was because of the encouragement of friend Lee Corso who feels the ...
