I've been smoked out. Thanks Jim and others for some nice comments. There will be doubters and that's totally fine, have at it. If you watch his film and don't like him or think SMU can do better, that's cool, say so. I am more concerned about SMU winning and surviving too than my son playing down the street, he will be totally fine and have lots of great options in football and life if anything changes. Dads' opinions are garbage, so I won't offer one, but i will pass on that Corbett Smith of the Dallas Morning News wrote in an online blog earlier this year that he thinks Mitchell is one of the most underrated linebackers in the area. He has done the work this summer on strength and agility, self imposed 2 a days all summer. He weighed on the scales at Premier/Lifetime fitness center yesterday and was 222. He will hopefully have a great senior season, should be lots of fun for our family, you only get this once. Looking forward to HP basketball too. He is a captain of both teams this year.

That's about all I will say about this, maybe for the next 5 years, maybe forever, I dunno. My avatar says I registered for PonyFans in March of the year 2000. Wow, time does fly. Mitchell was a 3 year old bowling ball then. Before that i was "stangster' on the old Mustang Maniacs site. I hope this site is still rolling 15 years from now and that SMU is doing great things. I'm still optimistic. No quitting. Ever. SMU is an awesome place.

Congrats to you Hoopfan and congrats to your son. It is wonderful to have a poster here that has a son that plays. We've had lots of family join ponyfans once their kid got in school, but this is the first time I recall a longtime member having a son (or daughter) on an SMU team. You must be very proud. Of course, how ironic that your son is on the fball team not hoops.

Hoopsfan, are you an SMU grad? Why the hoops moniker? I am looking forward to watching your son play for SMU. He sure had a lot of interceptions and pass deflections for a linebacker.

Also, I am a big proponent of HP players coming through SMU (I'm an HP grad). We have had a lot of great HP players and contributors through the years and I am glad the trend is continuing. You could make the argument that they aren't the greatest athlete's (racial overtones or not) but they are all driven to achieve and that makes them and the players around them better. So while most are not Matt Stafford quality with every college team in the country recruiting them, they are team builders, and will make SMU better.
