If they don't understand the importance of recruiting (and there's not much evidence they do) not a single one of them deserves a job in d1 college football.

True but a lot of these guys were old NFL coaches where you don't recruit or Hawaii coaches where all they did was make a phone here or ther because they had no recruiting budget. There was no evidence in JJ's time here that recruiting mattered to anyone(excluding klemm) at all.

I wish the best for Tom, but it seems like this is what's best for both sides. He can start somewhere fresh now ...I didn't think he really wanted to be here THAT badly...I'm pretty sure he said in an interview that Dallas felt too overwhelming for him when he was applying for the Nevada job.
Edit: the interview that i referenced

well Reinbold tried-I think he must have had a girlfriend in Louisiana because he loved spending a few weeks trolling the Bayou

Tiki din't submarine anything

to the 150s in recruiting like Bennett did under the Ponyfans writing on the wall:!:
He's a jerk for leaving after 2 games, but we'd beat USF, probably Tulsa, and possibly ECU, and
UH if he stayed to serve out his Ponyfans death penalty

Maybe the Tiki was right about not practicing full contact, we have LOST 16 players to
season ending injurys this season. Put that in your hash pipe, and smoke it

May the forth be with us.

Probably because our S&C program is a joke.

On the other hand, he also threw in the towel a few weeks back, so it's tough to feel bad for any of these guys. His last ditch effort at excuse making and whining about career suicide sounds a lot like his ex-boss to me. I'm sure he'll have a job somewhere within weeks of cleaning out his office.
If he is honest with himself, maybe he'll look in the mirror and realize his biggest mistake was not removing himself from the June cult years ago.
Mason clearly gave up after a few weeks of tweeting. Saw the writing on the wall I guess

Not defending him, I think he was a REAL JERK bailing out after UNT

I have worked at a place where lots of professional people left for better professional jobs after 2 or 3 years

I'm not sure I believe all you mind readers who know what JJ was thinking and when.

May the forth be with us.
Re: Tom Mason talks to media today
I wonder if JJ leaving early in the season had a well-thought out reason. Letting go of the coach early in the season lets you announce quite loudly (and with free publicity on sports networks while virtually little is happening at the beginning of the year), that you have a vacancy ahead of the yearly coaching shuffle that occurs almost like clock-work at the end of every season.
It seems like it gives you a bit more time to look for a quality coach, time to raise money (and establish how much you can afford/spend), time to piece together staff, and time to recruit players.
Of course, it also means the current staff and team get sacrificed.

Re: Tom Mason talks to media today
The second JJ decided to leave early was the second he realized he c0cked up his job here so badly he was going to be saddled with an 0-12 record that would stop him from ever working again. So, he bailed.
Re: Tom Mason talks to media today
Those comments made today by Mason saying that he has never seen a coach hired before the last game and that was still the head coach until the last game probably hastened HCCM's decision to let almost everyone go today.
