JMU was also faster than SMU

Postby Rebel10 » Sun Sep 27, 2015 1:13 am

People where I was sitting noticed and even made comments on how they were faster than SMU.

Most noticeable on qb draws. We knew it was coming and they knew we knew, and the guy still made our D look stuck in mud. The multiple gashes up the dead middle were a brutal combo of ineptitude on our part and a pure speed gap.

We'll flush out the deadweight we can and next season we'll forget about this crap, as emasculating as this was today.

And they tackle much better than we do.

What we are doing right now cannot be classified as tackling, or even an attempt at such. Need a lot of improvement both in technique and personnel

Showed when their wideout beat our guy on a streak for a td in the third quarter. Beat him by five yards

Our guy gave up on the play. It wasn't a speed issue. Their offensive coaches out-coached our defensive coaches. But even if the coaching was even, our defense is not talented enough to stop a good offense. We may have to score 50 points a game to win any more this year.

I did a back of the envelope count last night on missed tackles. If we got a hand on the ball carrier and didn't bring him down I counted it. This doesn't take into account players being in the wrong place and didn't have a chance to make the tackle, nor does it take into account that it would have been a tough tackle to make anyway. Just somebody laid a hand on the ball carrier and failed to bring him down (didn't count Special Teams). Using this criteria we missed 32 tackles last night.

Tackling was so bad...so many missed tackles....I would like to see their yard after contact vs. total rushing yards.

I dunno-I'm not sure we laid a finger on the QB on his jaunts through the heart of the SMU Defense

We were horrible, no doubt. But to be fair that was 6, who normally starts for us. He didn't last night, and we put him in as a desperate attempt to stop something. He was obviously injured and pulled up lame on that play and I don't think he played again. 18 Played the rest of the game at corner. I think it was after 4 got hurt on the punt return.

Probably balances out. There were plenty of rushes up the middle where Lee was untouched for 15 yards
