We should always be concerned though whenever Jason decides to analyze football players-stick with your specialty-the star studded emerging defensive players of the late June Jones era

also thanks again for once more including misleading information from Rivals even though you've been informed that those Rivals ratings can not be compared to prior years. You are comparing Apples to oranges because the number of 3 star recruits is 2013 was about double what it is in this class

I believe SMU has more kids with Division FBS offers and more kids with P5 offers in this class than in any previous Class since the Death Penalty.

Stallion, I am not discrediting what you're saying now, but I find it hard to believe that this class has the most FBS/P5 offers of any class post death penalty. I have no idea of how many FBS/P5 offers my class (94) had, but I would imagine it was a lot. I had offers from everyone in the SWC except UT and A&M. I also had offers from Oklahoma State, Missouri, Air Force, UTEP, New Mexico and some 1aa schools that are now FBS schools. I probably would have had more offers but I stopped talking to coaches near the end of my recruitment. And DMN called me the sleeper of that class. I'm pretty sure that Max Munn, Natan Lee and Deandre Robinson had more offers than me. All I'm saying is don't discredit Tom Rossley's last recruiting classes in the waining days of the SWC.

SMU during the Tom Rossley era was a disaster in recruiting-not really his fault-since SMU was playing under a different Model, admission standards and with poor facilities. Those records are long gone but Rossley didn't sign ANY memorable classes in relation to the SWC in which he competed. SMU was completely non-competitive in recruiting under Rossley. SMU did not work the state either like Chad Morris and this group of assistants either. Now the question might be do we have access to more information today-maybe-but Tom Rossley did not have a good record recruiting record at a P5 like level-the SWC level. Now when SMU's SWC level talent dropped down to play MWC level recruits SMU had some VERY LIMITED success playing in a less competitive conference. None of the players in any of his classes went to any bowl games even though they dropped a level in competition. I know one thing-without a shadow of a doubt -I'd rather have Chad Morris and this staff recruiting for SMU than a 1991-1996 Tom Rossley and his staff recruiting for SMU. In my opinion this is the first staff since the DP that had the slightest idea of what they were doing in recruiting.

Lol. That was not punking me. And I agree with Stallion in that I would prefer Morris over Rossley or any other post death penalty coach. I really did not know much about the other recruits in my class. We never talked about from whom we had offers. I guess my offer list was the exception and not the rule. I always thought I was a lightly recruited player, but my basis of comparison was my cousin who played at UT a few years before me and he literally had offers from everyone.

he asked the question

Fact is Tom Rossley was hired as a SWC Coach-which was a BCS level conference. His record against other BCS level conference schools was 4-39-3 when SMU was in the SWC. The next year-his last-when SMU moved to the MWC he went 1-1 against BCS level conference schools for a Final record of 5-40-3. Not sure how to count the former leftovers in 1996 who were no longer in a BCS level conference like TCU (W), Rice(W) and UH(didn't play). Point is his recruiting was dismal at the level at which he was hired

The Mountain West didn't exist in 1996, and we were never in it. I know you mean the WAC, but come on Stallion, you're slipping

no doubt-WAC had those pods (16 teams split into 4 pods) and can't even remember the one we were in. I think there was at least a Mountain pod

Didn't you just say that no one could have done a good job with the new recruiting restrictions in place post DP?

Crazy that we had those restrictions in place when we could've recouped during the SWC days

Having said that, how would you rank all our HCs from first to last in terms of recruiting ability if they were our HC today (oppressive restrictions lifted, AAC conference membership, coming off a disastrous year with an empty cupboard).

I say you will surprise most with whom you place last.

The results on the field show how bare the cupboard was after JJ. Hopefully we win some more games and end the season with some positives and then hit the ground running with more good players next year. Incremental growth. Year after year. The fact is Morris likes recruiting and that's what wins games (except for maybe UT and even they win a few now and then).
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
