Re: Big 12 grumblingIs Houston going to hire McCarney when Herman goes to South Carolina?
Re: Big 12 grumblingNeither Houston nor SMU are getting into the Big 12 as long as Texas is in the conference

Re: Big 12 grumblingFrankly I think Texas would rather go to the Pac-12 than share a conference with the likes of Memphis or Cincinnati, either

Re: Big 12 grumbling
Texas doesn't mind Cincy they can't stand Memphis
Re: Big 12 grumbling
I still don't see why they'd expand, esp if they can stage a conf champ game with ten teams 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient

Charlie Weis. His Notre Dame payouts finally ended, he needs to get paid again.
Re: Big 12 grumblingThere was a report out that Sonny Dykes is so desperate to leave Cal he'd even consider a G5 Texas job. Houston would be a good fit if Herman left

Re: Big 12 grumblingOh that's right, forgot about that.
Re: Big 12 grumblingBig XII is going to need an undefeated champion if it wants to lock down a playoff spot. Any one loss Big XII team is going to struggle against one loss champions from the other conferences who will have played their way through a championship game and there is also Notre dame to be concerned about. Current system is generating plenty of buzz and that's what they hoped for...even more than the old arguments about which 2 teams deserved to play for the championship. Same would be true if playoffs expanded to 8 teams (which conferences deserve the wildcard spots and would any G5 team be worthy?)
As for Big XII expansion, I agree that Houston and SMU add nothing and that BYU, Memphis, Cincy and potentially even UCF/USF would be more attractive than adding another Texas school. When all is said and done, it's about adding more TV viewers and Texas is already covered.
Re: Big 12 grumbling
That was partly the case. DeLoss Dodds was the architect of the whole thing. He always wanted the Big 8 and SWC to merge. He also wanted to marginalize as many Texas programs as possible thinking that UT would dominate recruiting with everyone else in a second rate conference. Remember that SMU regularly signed UT's recruiting targets before the DP. Tech and Baylor only got into the Big 12 because of their political connections at the time. Dodd's claim was that Arkansas's departure and SMU, TCU and U of H's various NCAA problems broke up the conference. He also said that ticket sales were a problem even though SMU and the other smaller schools agreed to a plan whereby each team kept all of its home revenues.

Maybe this will shut them up http://espn.go.com/college-football/rec ... =400763466 They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Big 12 grumblingConf champ games are such a double edged sword. OU's ticket is punched, I bet they're glad they don't have to play WVU next week. Meanwhile Clemson and Bama's playoff chances could be dashed with a loss next week (although Clemson is in much more danger than Bama there. Florida looks putrid).
Most compelling one is the Big 10 champ game which is essentially a play in game for the fourth playoff spot 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Big 12 grumbling
Yep, the Big 12 lost out on quite a few title games back in the BCS era due to having that CCG. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security
