Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: 75% of the SMU football commits have P5 offersOnly a total idiot would see what we are doing in recruiting, considering we have won a grand total of three games in the past two years, and not be over incredibly happy.
The only class that I would trade classes with in The American, as it stands today, is Houston. When you compare the seasons SMU and UH had it shouldn't even be close but we are not terribly far behind them. 247 Team Rankings (American) #31 Houston #62 SMU #63 USF #65 Cincinnati #70 ECU #77 Temple #83 Tulane #89 Navy #90 Memphis #97 Tulsa #105 UCF #107 UCONN Rivals Team Rankings #35 Houston #54 SMU #63 USF #67 Cincinnati #83 Temple #84 Tulane #93 ECU #93 Navy #96 Memphis #96 Tulsa #99 UCF #108 UCONN Scout Team Rankings #40 Houston #56 SMU #62 Cincinnati #69 South Florida #80 Tulane #84 UCONN #90 ECU #91 Temple #93 Tulsa #96 Navy #98 Memphis #101 UCF Again, given the perspective that we've won all of three games in the last two years I'd say that is flat out amazing. Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: 75% of the SMU football commits have P5 offersRank by Offers which weights recruits by weighing the quality of their offers has us at No. 42 in the Country. Not really endorsing it yet-want to see how complete their data is but they seem to be tracking our offers pretty well. I want to see if they pick up our recent P5 offers to Patrick Jones and Dae Williams for example. I think the concept makes as much sense as any other-but it does downgrade that solid kid that knows where he wants to go early and never waivers like for ex. Braxton Webb

As far as those rankings go and how they calculate them SMU will probably be passed by USF and Cincinnati once they fill up their classes imo. #HammerDown
Re: 75% of the SMU football commits have P5 offersThe sites are tough to rank right now because they are based on total points and we have so many more commitments than other schools in our conference. It could go anywhere.
Rank by offers has us 4th on average, but we might move up to third because UCF is stuck at 7 commits and reaching the end of the season you would think they won't grab higher rated recruits. Scout will have us middle of the pack, Rivals will have us towards the bottom of conference. As comparison, we were third in RBO last year, 4th in CUSA the year before, 8th in CUSA the year before that. Not quite where we want to be, but much better than the last two recruiting years under June (4th in CUSA obviously is a lot worse than 4th in the AAC).
Re: 75% of the SMU football commits have P5 offersI would be good to see where we are as far as percentage of recruits with P5 offers.

Re: 75% of the SMU football commits have P5 offers
Useless. Report back the first week of February.
Re: 75% of the SMU football commits have P5 offersIt's wild how bad Memphis is, despite a very solid year. It seemed like Fuente did good work with less than stellar recruiting classes. Even with him rumored to be on the way out, I'd have figured Memphis would have had more commitments.
Do any of the sites track average stars per commitment? That's my favorite metric at this point but you have to balance out a school with 20 commitments vs. one with just a handful. What percentage of last year's SMU commitments had P5 offers?
Re: 75% of the SMU football commits have P5 offersAbout half of our '15 recruits had P5 offers. Off the top of my head

Re: 75% of the SMU football commits have P5 offers
Memphis and ECU have done a great job finding players nobody had a clue about. Great coaches know players a lot better than the recruiting analysts. When TCU first started to get good, sure they stole a couple of players who had offers from big schools. But they also did a great job grabbing a RB who was a great athelete but too slow and turning them into LBs and DEs.

Re: 75% of the SMU football commits have P5 offersTo JasonB's point, there is the development of the player after he us recruited. Hopefully we have upgraded the strength and conditioning program side as well.

Re: 75% of the SMU football commits have P5 offers
Memphis and ECU do not have high academic standards and can get players that others can't. And sometime you strike gold like Memphis did with their QB. Without Lynch they are about average. ECU coach just got fired by the way. Also, Stallion has refuted that false assumption that TCU got players that no one else wanted. Coach Fran said the strategy was to beat BCS bottom feeders out for players and Patterson carried that on. They also have a good track program which helps. SMU is starting to follow what Fran did by getting players with mid and low level BCS offers. As we have found out when you try to build a program mostly on under the radar players and while you night have a few good years of success in a bad league but you can crash and burn pretty quickly with devastating effects. Sometimes the analysts are right sometimes the coaches right are sometimes they are on the same page. Sometimes coaches are wrong. Just remember for every Memphis there is an FAU, FIU, New Mexico, New Mexico State etc that fail doing that under the radar stuff. Very rarely do schools succeed on a consistent basis recruiting under the radar players. And Houston is a school with low academic standards in the middle of a recruiting hotbed so they should recruit well very year. Re: 75% of the SMU football commits have P5 offersNew Mexico actually had a good year this year. Beat both Boise State and Air Force. Not sure if it's sustainable, but I think the coach there is doing a good job. Can't be easy to recruit to Albuquerque, yikes. My mom's side of the family is from there and I have spent a lot of time there.
