He did some tv color commentary maybe 25 or 30 years ago or so when many of our home games were carried on one of the local non-network stations.

They outlawed it because of Lew Alcindor (Kareem Jabbar) when he was at UCLA. Re-instated it in the late 70s hence the rise of Phi Slamma Jamma at Houston.
Re: SMU ESPN 3 AnnouncersThey outlawed it due to too many backboards being broken causing delays and game terminations. Then when allowed again it was banned during warm ups and it still may be. Not sure on that. The thrill and the collapsing rims helped get it reinstated.
