Could not dunk when I was at SMU. Of course it was a big enough deal that they cut the bottom out of the peach basket.

They outlawed it because of Lew Alcindor (Kareem Jabbar) when he was at UCLA. Re-instated it in the late 70s hence the rise of Phi Slamma Jamma at Houston.

They outlawed it due to too many backboards being broken causing delays and game terminations. Then when allowed again it was banned during warm ups and it still may be. Not sure on that. The thrill and the collapsing rims helped get it reinstated.

If a warming up player slams the ball after the officials are on the court, the game begins with free throws (Technical foul).
