Proposed Big 12From reading reports I don't think Texas wants Houston in the Big 12. We need to join forces with the horns to get us in.
North Cincinnati Iowa State Kansas Kansas State Oklahoma Oklahoma State West Virginia South Baylor Memphis SMU TCU Texas Texas Tech UCF or Tulane
Re: Proposed Big 12Can't wait to have the last laugh when we both get left in the dust.
Re: Proposed Big 12Houston is winning at the right time while we are vying for worst team in fbs football. Not good.
Re: Proposed Big 12IMO, the ONLY chance we have is partnering with UH and convincing the PAC-12 they need a presence in Texas. I think they eventually take SDSU and UNLV which leaves NM, Boise, Colo St, SMU and UH to battle for the final two spots. It's the longest of longshots.
Also, I think UH has the leadership to make it happen. I've seen no evidence we do. Even though we have no chance at the Big 12, it would make me feel better if we were in the media promoting SMU like UH, Cincy and Colo St have been. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

Re: Proposed Big 12we don't have a chance at P5. accept it.
Re: Proposed Big 12I disagree with a lot of what you postand this is no different. Accepting it is what got SMU to this point in the first place, but carry on.....

Re: Proposed Big 12I wonder if the Tulane and Rice and Tulsa message boards also have crazy posters who think that they have a chance with the P5.
Re: Proposed Big 12
any talk about any conference other than the pac-12 is an utter waste of time. that's our only shot. end of story. @seagulls00

If I'm ever feeling a bit down and need a laugh I always come here thank God for Pony fans
Re: Proposed Big 12
Tulane has actually been mentioned by some media as more of a possibility than SMU. Go figure
Re: Proposed Big 12I think Tulane gets mentioned for the same reason UNLV does with the PAC 12. Who doesn't want to visit Vegas or NOLA for a weekend and watch your school play?

Re: Proposed Big 12
I tend to disagree...If, and it is an ENORMOUS IF, we were to get any invite in the near (2 year) future, I believe it would be to the ACC. We need to get a pulse by October, or we are not evening to get a sniff from the Big 12. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: Proposed Big 12Pretty sure the Big 12's decision will come way before October. Unless you can George O'Leary our resume without getting caught, it is what it is.

Re: Proposed Big 12Well, most of this will come down to the Dallas market value.
If Rutgers brings NYC (and I have lived in the area for 20 years and haven't seen a single Rutgers game live or on TV locally- they are invisible in NYC), then SMU has a chance to bring some conference with a Network into North Texas (understand we have only a slightly bigger impact on Dallas media). We have decent facilities and a good location and the potential to be a solid performer (even if it is not happening at the moment). I doubt the Big 12 will be interested because 1) they already have TCU in the market and 2) UT. The SEC has A&M which doesn't necessarily get them the DFW market for an SEC network, but the SEC probably doesn't need the DFW market. Our only chances would be to lock out a competitor or shore up the conference if Texas and OU bolt. It will come down to is the DFW market footprint worth it to another conference network? It might be with reduced cable fees, to increase the footprint and audience. And it may not. That's the gamble. Support the Commitment! We're all SMU Mustangs fans- we should all be committed!
Re: Proposed Big 12We have a fine new coach, but it was rumored that he expressed an interest in Baylor...which puts him on a short term here...other than basketball,we have nothing to interest anyone except fanatics who ,like me,are stupid enough to hope that some magic will happen....Turner and/or Hart are not strong enough to persuade anyone to recklessly include SMU in any sort of expansion...we have no proven institutional commitment....we have no proven leadership from our board of trustees (for athletics),we have no significant community support....we have a few hundred fans who are paying way to much for a poor product on our football field...when you have a poor product on your football field, you will have a bad result...when you have a bad result you will have no fans,...you know the rest....that is my message to you. Now, I will go kick my dog.
