3 recruiting classesModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: 3 recruiting classesactually I hate to say it because Scout is the better service but I believe their top commentators predicted a bowl game

Re: 3 recruiting classes
You might be right; however, they were very clear and bottom line after spring practices. I guess even they let hopes exceed the realities. You have been right on for years re the lack of talent and recruiting issues which finally became 4 class cumulative and totally exposed in the spring.
Re: 3 recruiting classes
The problem with their predictions was they failed to anticipate the complete failure of our defense. The offense played about like they predicted. If smu played a Texas 2A team that ran the option, who thinks we could keep them under 40? Do unto others before they do unto you!!

Agree, #HammerDown
Re: 3 recruiting classesWho cares who predicted what?

Since we have some that are starting to blame the coaches I am bumping this thread to encourage everyone to be patient. #HammerDown

wow, you really nailed it. are you some kind of soothsayer?
Re: 3 recruiting classes
Tulsa, UCF, Tulane
Re: 3 recruiting classes
Tulane had programming defining wins over Southern, ULL, and Umass. Let me know how they do against better competition. UCF had 9 wins in 2014. I am not sure what happened in 2015, but the coach running out of gas had a lot to do with it. The might not win 9 games this year, but the will be very good very fast. Re: 3 recruiting classes
We haven't had a 9 win season since Reagan's first term. Just about every fbs program I can think of is far "ahead" of us. We can't excuse every loss every time to every team in the top 100. We gotta freakin find a way to win one every now and again. I'm not asking to beat Houston, but is 1 top 50 win too much to ask?
Re: 3 recruiting classesyes its ridiculous to expect SMU to beat a Top 50 program right now. You don't follow much College Football obviously. Top 50 is a Texas Tech or a Mississippi St or a UT. We would be 24 point underdogs to all of them. Hell we were 17 point underdogs to Tulsa and took them to OT on the road

Re: 3 recruiting classes
With the possible exception of Tulsa, we will be underdogs the rest of the way. We have six games left: if we were willing to loan any of our opponents our best/healthy OL for the rest of the year, I would not be surprised to find out that nobody answered the phone. There are 12 Teams in our conference. How many of our OL (healthy or injured) are in the Top Six st there position? Brown? Pursley? And possibly McCarty. Btw - Saena has been a pleasant surprise this year. Frankly, I think he was our best RT of the season. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: 3 recruiting classes
I assume you meant Tulane but I doubt we will be favored on the road. I expect SMU to be underdogs the rest of this season and by some pretty large margins, starting with Houston.
Re: 3 recruiting classesRight DigetyDog
No reasonable, football knowledgeable person would fire a Coach rebuilding a bottomed out program based upon a Sophomore dominated roster. SMU will have about 38 true and/or medical/redshirt sophomores next year who are the nucleus of the rebuilding program. I'm hoping to get to 6 wins and a bowl in 2017 but if we don't like under Ron Meyer you keep rebuilding until that nucleus has had time to develop. Very exasperating reading these threads For about 20 years I've repeated the traditional Rebuild Rule: "Recruit Well and Count to 3 or 4" to be competitive. Under that traditional rule we should EXPECT to be competitive 2017 OR 2018. Remember Morris only had 3 weeks of actual recruiting days to recruit in 2015 so while we were happy with the class put together at the last minute I'm not so sure its even fair to start the 3-4 year clock after the 2015 Class The program is progressing fine but hindered by the injuries to key players. Focus on the undeniable FACT that SMU's freshman and sophomores are clearly bigger, faster, stronger and more athletic because those are the kids that are going to be there when the Dancing begins "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
