That's for sure. Given our abhorrent lack of fan support, it will be very difficult for SMU to receive a bowl bid other than Fort Worth, or Houston if we have an amazing season.

First, it is very premature to be talking bowl, although I think next year sets itself up very well for the possibility. Second realize that we are in a conference with many bowl tie-ins. If we are bowl eligible and there are not more than I believe 6 teams in CUSA that are, we will go to a bowl. This is not like in my days when, as someone mentioned earlier that if we did not win the conference (Cotton Bowl) we were left out.
This even brings back the old argument as to why Bobby Collins went for the tie rather than the win in our undefeated season. If we had gone for 2 and made it, we were National Champions. If we had gone for 2 and missed, we would very possibly not gotten a Bowl Bid and certainly not a good one. Other major bowls were already selecting their teams and we did not travel well enough to warrant strong consideration even with the "star power" we had on the team. We needed the assurance of a major bowl which the CB and only the CB at the time.
I will take my chances with a 7-5 season that we will get a bowl. Just be sure and get a paper outside of Dallas so you will know what is going on.

Got a card in the mail about renewing season tickets for next year.
It listed our HOME opponents for next year.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
Copeland, and Bennett are selling their souls to the
for a
chance at a bowl game. Longview High School hosted a "post season
bowl game" broadcast to the eastern half of the nation on ABC around
79, or 80.
Anybody been kicked out of Div. 1A for not meeting 15000 lately
Not to mention the impact on our pocketbookd

That's interesting about the bowl in Longview--I've never heard of that one. Perhaps Mustangs35 could shed some light on this.
University of Idaho plays their home games at the Kibbie Dome, a multipurpose arena that only seats 16000 for football. In order to augment the low attendance at those games at the Moscow campus, they also play a select number of games at Washington State University's Martin Stadium, located in nearby Pullman (less than a 15 minute drive). In order to qualify for Division 1-A, Idaho played all of their home games in 1999 at Martin Stadium.
The University of Houston played University of Miami at Reliant Stadium this part year. Louisiana Tech hosted Miami at Independence Stadium in Shreveport a few years back. Perhaps this sheds some light on the measures schools go to in order to ensure they stay above the 15,000 average.

That would have been the Division II national championship game, which in 82 and 83 moved to McAllen and became the "Palm Bowl," where Jim Wacker won his two national titles (somehow I remember those years very fondly but for other reasons

Interesting. If you want to call that a "bowl game" you could call the "Cactus Bowl" (Division II All Star Game played in Kingsville) a bowl game as well. Thing is---it isn't. Bowl Games have always been a unique feature of Division I-A.

Aw man...STALLION, WHERE ARE YOU!? They are in the sauce AGAIN! Geez, can you PUH-LEASE lock up your liquor...we turn our backs for one minute and they are snaking it out the back door.
You guys are crazy! There's no way Tech beats us - even in Lubbock!
They can't stop DeMyron Martin. He'll go for 200 and 3 TD.
We're 10-2 next year. 9-3 at the worst.

Agreed about DeMyron Martin.
On everything else---you're WRONG. 200 yards and 3 TDs for DeMyron will not be enough to overcome the high-powered Tech offense.
9-3 is the BEST we should expect. 8-4 is more realistic.

We did host that DII National Title Game. I remember hearing about that. It was the 1st or 2nd year of the stadium.
Obviously didn't have that many people at it cause the Lobos set a stadium attendance record this year with close 15,000 at the John Tyler game (for a stadium that is supposed to hold 10,500)

Sept. 16 Sam Houston State
Sept. 23 Arkansas State
TBA Marshall ( I hope that's not Bennett's old HS )
TBA UAB
TBA Tulsa
TBA Houston
Don't see us breaking 15000 in any of these games. Maybe Marshall if
they're ranked in the state 4A top ten again. East Texas teams travel
well.

get your tickets early. Here's a question I'm sure jtstang could anwer-why would anybody buy seasons tickets with this embarrassment of a schedule. You watch season tickets will be at a historic low for Ford Stadium. There is no benefit for ensuring a particular great seat for any one game so why bother with season tickets.
