A ridiculously inept performance - just the first of many ignominious embarassments to come before this season comes to its humiliating conclusion.
A long tradition of existence.

I gave it 24 hours to process last night’s debacle and I think I feel even worse now. The cupcake tour is over and reality is about to crash down on this thing like a ton of bricks.

Jank’s legacy at SMU will be his excuses. After the last two years of his constant excuse-making they now define the program. This will still be a desirable job but the next guy will need to do a lot to change the perception of the program which Jank created.

At least every future coach knows when you come to SMU, it's never a hot seat.

LA, I can easily see SMU play .500 ball in conference as this appears to be an off-year for the AAC.

That would give tank something like a 18-14 record and a borderline NIT team.

If SMU wouldn't fire him last year when he had a losing record, I don't see it this year either.

He might get 20 or more wins considering how bad the bottom part of the conference is. Then add in the fact that we only play Cincy, WSU and UCONN once.

We’re headed towards a bad situation where it’s not a good look to fire a coach with a ΓÇ£winningΓÇ¥ record. He’s padded his stats with the year of LB’s team and two years of cupcakes.

If we get war-crimed by other teams at home a few more times that should be obvious. We’ve already been the best 20-win team left out of the tourney once before. It’s not who we should aspire to be.

NCAA tourney or fire him.

He has a legit starting 5 and now has a bench 10 deep. .500 isn't going to cut it with anyone.

I think Miller has eyes and can see what's up. Especially the attendance drop off. I think they didn't want to pull the plug last year because he did have the probation issues and firing him would be a bad look as well as costly. So, they're biding their time. If he get to the NCAA tournament then he's good. If not, during a down AAC year, and gets blown out by credible opponents then he's gone.

If they keep him then SMU is telling the world that BBall success really isn't that important.

This would suggest that people actually took Excusavich's excuses seriously...

I believe at one point SMU was shooting something like 4 for 26 from the field.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good story.

For the umpteenth time I would urge PFs tofeel free to indulge their whims as this is the purpose of the board but not to take themselves too seriously. We are likely neither as good as our unbeaten start looked, or as bad as the awful shooting performance last night. This season will tell us a tale....at its conclusion.

He started laying that foundation toward the end of last year: next year we will be really young, lack of leadership, etc.

They don't believe any of that - The only reason it didn't happen last year is they didn't want to buy out an extra year of contract. Everyone acts like the money is irrelevant when it is everything. Buying out contracts is about the least fun a donor can have. Its way more fun to go overpay for the next guy or put your name on a building etc...The line for alums willing to help with contract buy outs is always vacant.

I hear ya and makes perfect sense. Sad that we are so hostage to toxic assets like that.

Wait, what? Toxic assets? This is nothing peculiar to SMU.
