Re: MBB at Houston Game ThreadHouston with an 11 rebound advantage and up 18 points while shooting less than 33%
Re: MBB at Houston Game ThreadIn the Tulsa loss, the Hurricane were 18 of 22 at the line. SMU is 13 of 22. There's five points. Key is converting shots but SMU is shooting just 30%. UH just at 33%.

Re: MBB at Houston Game Thread
That was an ugly game so who could blame them for wanting to hide it?
Re: MBB at Houston Game ThreadIf this SMU team was supposed to have a legitimate shot at separating from the rest of the AAC and establishing themselves as the 2nd best team in the AAC and possibly deserving of a 2nd NCAA bid for the conference, this game (combined with the earlier game vs Houston) proved that the American is a one bid league and it's Houston's league with everyone else just trying to go better than .500 in conference play and getting invited to the NIT.
I'd like to think this SMU team has enough talent to compete in the NIT but we haven't played Tulsa, USF or Wichita State yet and I'm not confident we will sweep anyone other than Temple at this point. We've already proved we can lose to one of the worst teams (Cincy) on our home court so it will be interesting to see how our guys respond to this week's struggles.

A long tradition of existence.
Re: MBB at Houston Game ThreadI really thought we were going to be competitive today.

Re: MBB at Houston Game ThreadWe were for a while. When Davis got 3 and 4, that ended it. Even when his shot is off, he's irreplaceable

Re: MBB at Houston Game Thread
Our guys were competitive in that 1st half but we were playing Houston basketball. Physical in your face defense that tends to throw teams off their offensive flow. Our guys missed several open looks early and then became hesitant when they did get open looks, which were hard to come by. That was just a really ugly basketball game to watch and left me wondering how Houston will fare in the post season because they shot so poorly themselves. There are plenty of teams that can match Houston's physical play but also have offensive talent. Houston, while possibly head and shoulders better than anyone else in the AAC, remains a very questionable Top 10 team to me...at least based on the 2 games we played with them.
Re: MBB at Houston Game ThreadAt the half, Ponies led by one in Dallas and trailed by four in Houston. Second half deficit was 15 and 18 respectively. Coogs also got to the line 5-6 more times than SMU and made 8-9 more FTs.
Over the course of the season, UH has three more steals, ten more rebounds, two more blocks and three fewer turnovers per game than its opponents. Can a physical team with good perimeter defense beat UH on a cold shooting night? Absolutely. Shooting 34% and 39% from the field won't cut it when the other team is hot.
