Gary P was making $6M per year and was 21-22 over the last four years (13-19 in Big 12). Two of the OOC losses were to SMU at home.

Would Pony fans take Joey McGuire over Lashlee? What about Elko, the DC at A&M? Well, he makes $2.1M per year. Is he worth low $3s to run a program?

Heck we've had 3 head football coaches in the last 8 years....
soon to be 4 head coaches in 9 years....it's a merry-go-round.

Why we as fans always seemed shocked is a bit surrprising.

Look at the landscape...most coaches move a lot during their careers.

They either get fired, move laterally, or move on to a bigger gig.

It's pretty much a fact of life....better get used to it, instead of hoping for a fluke that stays many years.

I would be fine with Lashlee...

With the contingency that (1) Samples, (2) Blake, and (3) Kaz are staying - in that order of importance.

Knows SMU / Dallas and some of the players (if I recall correctly, he was one of the primary recruiters of Preston Stone). Would allow him to get up to speed quicker than most any other candidate we are discussing. When he was at SMU as OC he did alot more, with less talent, than Riley has shown this year.

I would be happy with this hire. Regardless of which assistants stay, I think the money will be there to bring in the supporting talent. SMU has shown a willingness to try to retain its staff. We need to be the best G5 in the nation…not P5. Any excess $$$ would be better spent on facilities, recruiting, marketing. There are reasons Sonny is leaving and I doubt it’s his salary.

Every coach had a first HC gig, and most were coordinators in the past. Maybe Lash works out, maybe he doesn't. But as someone who remembers Cavan and Bennett, this guy's résumé is solid.

I’m also good with Lashee. And the more I sit with it the more I like it.

Retaining Samples, Blake, and Kaz would be huge. I suspect Sonny will try to take some or all of them with him.

and we chose the k-mart route. looks like even the 'circle' has quit supporting our programs.
So SMU, happy being second-class in a third class league. This is just what little rickey and RGT want.

Lashlee is by the best candidate we got. We've been vetting since Dykes got the extension and didn't sign it. Much like TCU had Dykes pegged after the non-incident with GP.

Going with Deion, Stoops or some other idiotic recommendation would be the donors giving up.
