I hate the CFP committeeOhio St loses at home to an unranked Michigan team, in the last week of the season, and they only drop 4 spots (2 to 6).
This has all the elements that you normally look for in a big drop in the rankings: - home loss to an unranked team - last week of the season - the team has a strong incentive to win: conf championship game appearance Last edited by highlander on Wed Dec 04, 2024 10:10 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: God, I hate the CFP committee
You are, of course, not wrong. But the situation is as the situation has been. Win. Beat Clemson. That’s the way.
Re: God, I hate the CFP committeeThink how different this would look today had GT>GEO, MIA > SYR, CLE >SC. All were right there for the taking. ACC would be sitting with 3 clearly in. Sigh....
Re: God, I hate the CFP committee
This is also true.
Re: God, I hate the CFP committeeSMU now No. 8

Re: God, I hate the CFP committeeIt's pretty clear from the comments of the committee chair that SMU must win the ACC Championship to get in. They will take a 3 loss Alabama team over a 2 loss SMU team.
Okay, so go beat Clemson and settle this. I'm fine with that.
Re: God, I hate the CFP committeeYes; SMU needs to beat a "brand name" team and Clemson is one of those!
Re: God, I hate the CFP committee
Compare that to Miami, which lost on range road to a team that finished 9-3. Miami is below Bama now. The whole system is basically arranged for the SEC and BT.

Re: God, I hate the CFP committee
An exhaustive 10-second google search has revealed that, not only is Warde Manuel the CFP Committee Chair, but he also moonlights as Michigan's AD!
Re: God, I hate the CFP committee
It will be up to the UVa AD this year to do what the NC State AD failed to do last year and defend the conference effectively. Also, I read his comments as saying if SMU gets blown out in Charlotte, we’re out. But I do agree we could be out regardless.
Re: God, I hate the CFP committeeI didn't realize the committee was comprised of ADs.
Re: God, I hate the CFP committeeIt should be comprised of a bunch of foreign soccer fans who know nothing about American College Football but are really good at comparing numbers and analyzing data.

Maybe Allocate slots for each league based on last 4 years performance Mustang from India
Re: God, I hate the CFP committee
Like the NCAA MBB D1 Committee, it's broader than that. And I'll add to my previous statement about UVa AD Carla Williams to say that Jim Grobe should stick up for the ACC as well, and it will be hard to talk about Nevada being a weak win for SMU with Chris Ault sitting in the room. The 13: Four are former coaches: • Gary Pinkel, most notably Missouri’s coach from 2001-15. • Mike Riley, Oregon State and Nebraska coaching stints and played for Bear Bryant at Alabama. • Jim Grobe, longtime Wake Forest coach and before that Ohio. • Chris Ault, Nevada’s coach for 23 years. Two more members are notable former players: • Randall McDaniel, All-Pro Minnesota Vikings offensive lineman who played at Arizona State from 1984-87. • Will Shields, Pro Football Hall of Famer who played guard for the Kansas City Chiefs and played at Nebraska. Six members are sitting athletic directors: • Michigan's Warde Manuel (chair). • UVa's Carla Williams (at UGA from 2016-2020 though). • Arkansas’ Hunter Yurachek. • Navy’s Chet Gladchuk. • Baylor’s Mack Rhoades. • Miami of Ohio’s David Sayler. Finally, there is a former media member: • Kelly Whiteside, who covered college football for USA Today for 14 years and was the first female president of the Football Writers Association of America.
