I hate the CFP committee
Ohio St loses at home to an unranked Michigan team, in the last week of the season, and they only drop 4 spots (2 to 6).
This has all the elements that you normally look for in a big drop in the rankings:
- home loss to an unranked team
- last week of the season
- the team has a strong incentive to win: conf championship game appearance

You are, of course, not wrong. But the situation is as the situation has been. Win. Beat Clemson. ThatΓÇÖs the way.highlander wrote:Ohio St loses at home to an unranked Michigan team, in the last week of the season, and they only drop 4 spots (2 to 6).

Think how different this would look today had GT>GEO, MIA > SYR, CLE >SC. All were right there for the taking. ACC would be sitting with 3 clearly in. Sigh....

This is also true.mustang1992 wrote:Think how different this would look today had GT>GEO, MIA > SYR, CLE >SC. All were right there for the taking. ACC would be sitting with 3 clearly in. Sigh....

Re: God, I hate the CFP committee
It's pretty clear from the comments of the committee chair that SMU must win the ACC Championship to get in. They will take a 3 loss Alabama team over a 2 loss SMU team.
Okay, so go beat Clemson and settle this. I'm fine with that.

Yes; SMU needs to beat a "brand name" team and Clemson is one of those!

Compare that to Miami, which lost on range road to a team that finished 9-3. Miami is below Bama now.highlander wrote:Ohio St loses at home to an unranked Michigan team, in the last week of the season, and they only drop 4 spots (2 to 6).

The whole system is basically arranged for the SEC and BT.

An exhaustive 10-second google search has revealed that, not only is Warde Manuel the CFP Committee Chair, but he also moonlights as Michigan's AD!indianmustang wrote:setting up SMU to Drop if we dont win

It will be up to the UVa AD this year to do what the NC State AD failed to do last year and defend the conference effectively.highlander wrote:An exhaustive 10-second google search has revealed that, not only is Warde Manuel the CFP Committee Chair, but he also moonlights as Michigan's AD!indianmustang wrote:setting up SMU to Drop if we dont win

Also, I read his comments as saying if SMU gets blown out in Charlotte, weΓÇÖre out. But I do agree we could be out regardless.

I didn't realize the committee was comprised of ADs.

It should be comprised of a bunch of foreign soccer fans who know nothing about American College Football but are really good at comparing numbers and analyzing data.

Like the NCAA MBB D1 Committee, it's broader than that. And I'll add to my previous statement about UVa AD Carla Williams to say that Jim Grobe should stick up for the ACC as well, and it will be hard to talk about Nevada being a weak win for SMU with Chris Ault sitting in the room.highlander wrote:I didn't realize the committee was comprised of ADs.
The 13:
Four are former coaches:
ΓÇó Gary Pinkel, most notably MissouriΓÇÖs coach from 2001-15.

ΓÇó Jim Grobe, longtime Wake Forest coach and before that Ohio.
ΓÇó Chris Ault, NevadaΓÇÖs coach for 23 years.
Two more members are notable former players:
ΓÇó Randall McDaniel, All-Pro Minnesota Vikings offensive lineman who played at Arizona State from 1984-87.
ΓÇó Will Shields, Pro Football Hall of Famer who played guard for the Kansas City Chiefs and played at Nebraska.
Six members are sitting athletic directors:
ΓÇó Michigan's Warde Manuel (chair).
