I don't get it, all the QBs on our roster are 6-1 to 6-4. Is there a problem here? Where does short end? :shock:

you obviously have never seen Justin Willis up close if you really think he is 6-1 or for that matter any of our QBs are their reported heights-they ain't.

As for where short ends. When you have an O-Line of guys 6'3-6'5 (or bigger at many big time programs) in height fighting off D-Ends and Tackles the same height and with long wingspans, it can be problematic to have 5'11 QBs running around the pocket trying to complete passes.

I think Willis is going to be a good QB for us and I am pretty optomistic about the upcoming season. With that said, there is no way he falls in the 6'1-6'4 range you just described. In fact I don't think he is even 6 ft tall if we really measured him.

I am in no way knocking this prospect. He is probably a pretty damn good player based on the schools that are looking at him. Just giving some insight as to why people insist on having tall QBs.

Most QBs throw through open lanes and well over the top of any oncoming rusher no matter the height. Vision can be a roblem, but it works both ways (hard for d to see the qb),. Number one reason for the desire of big QBs is similar to pitchers, arm strength.

I believe coaches evaluate a QBs arm strength based on their actual arm strength not their height. :lol:

I know that you have thoroughly evaluated all of the upcoming QB's in the state. i.e stood next to them and eyeballed them....

Anybody know how tall Lance McIlheny was? I don't think he much taller than six feet- if that tall, but I recall seeing SMU win quite a few games when he was our quarterback.

stand next to 'em? all you had to do was watch all those third down passes knocked down in the backfield the last couple years to know the value of tall qbs.
everything else equal:

stronger arms are better than weaker (who disagrees with that?)
taller qbs are better
more mobile qbs are better than slow clods
better linemen alleviate some shortcomings in characteristics above

ok, everything else is never equal. we'll see how these shorter guys do. but lets not resolve to recruit short, slow, weak armed qbs with great leadership skills!
