Spread the SMU Gospel!Just an idea to pass along..... Here at Special Delivery we try to generate new SMU fans. Every year we try to "sell SMU" by offering information about SMU Football tickets via flyers in paychecks and then we offer to "front" the money for SMU season ticket packages to our employees(30) and drivers(70). We do payroll deductions to recoup the money. This really helps people make the decision. This plan has already produced several families that are now renewing their season tickets every year. Just think if more "friends of SMU" did this at their companies. We could begin adding year by year alot of new people in the stands. From our experience, once people make that first trip out to the BLVD and....are welcomed.......are shown a good time..... and the kids enjoy the BLVD experience and the game they are "hooked" and want to come back for more. I encourage anyone to use our flyer and change it to fit or make your own. If we all work together to get the SMU stadium full, the games will be alot more fun and it will also help SMU recruit better. Looking forward to this season. GO MUSTANGS! re: That's great. Did the Marketing staff give you the idea
or help print it up? Special Delivery just started doing it on our own about 3-4 years ago. We view it as a "project" where we try to convince people to come out to an SMU game and then we kind of "baby-sit" them at our Blvd tent offering them free food, free drinks, ect... If they have a pleasant experience many times they want to come back. Hopefully we can continue our success with adding people every year and do our small part to get people in the stands. ![]() "THE SMU BLVD - - NO PLACE ELSE" (retired)
Note to SMU Athletic Dept: Get a program together to offer slightly discounted tickets to companies when sold in large numbers.
Special_Delivery_Smu_Fans,
You need to forward this concept to Steve Orsini. However, I bet he already has something in the works. I love the payroll deduction idea. Just send 'da money.
Can i get on the payroll so that I can then get a payroll deduction?

RE: "I love the payroll deduction idea"
The payroll deduction works great! Most people are on a tight budget so they tend to procrastinate if they have to come up with the money. With payroll deduction they say "sure that sounds like fun put me down for some tickets". Payroll deduction interest free over time makes it hard to say "no". ![]() "THE SMU BLVD - - NO PLACE ELSE" (retired)
Hey Special Delivery -
What got you guys started on apodting SMU as your team? How did that happen? Did one of you just happen to go to a game and decide - "this is awesome", or what? Because in meeting you folks - and I cannot say for sure - but all that I had met did not go to SMU. I'd just like to know how it all got started... because somehow, we can look at your story and see if there is a way to use that to attract more fans, and more companies. -Thaddeus ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh

How did that happen Well the saga begins with an SMU fan many of you know named Craig Welch who works at Special Delivery and plays a very big part in the company's success in the Dallas business world. Craig has always been a huge supporter of SMU Athletics and was always beating the "SMU Drumbeat" on the Special Delivery two-way radios as well as around the office water fountains when office talk turned to sports. Craig is a very knowledgeable and persistent salesman/recruiter for new SMU Fans. You are correct many of us did not attend SMU but we "adopted" SMU because: #1. We love college football and the college football atmosphere. #2. We live and work in Dallas and SMU is the only Div 1 College Football Team in Dallas. Some of the colleges we attended are much farther away. If we want to see live college football, SMU is the logical choice being just a short drive from our homes. What better way to spend Fall afternoons than at a real college football game supporting your local Dallas college football team? #3. SMU built a wonderful new stadium that is helpful in luring new potential SMU fans out to watch some college football on Fall afternoons. #4. An SMU game is a fun day to spend with the entire family. Kids and adults have a good time. And it is a relatively inexpensive way to entertain the entire family compared to a day at Six Flags, a concert or a Dallas Cowboys game. #5. The BLVD! Everyone enjoys the BLVD. We believe in making the BLVD "inclusive" in that we invite "strangers" in for a free hot dog or soda. Things like free candy or treats for the kids walking by. Anything that leads to smiling faces translates into a happy day at SMU which means they might come back and we need people to come back and become fans and supporters of SMU Football. We believe that if SMU is to attain the success it deserves, SMU will need to have more than just alumni in the stands. The alumni are not enough. Schools like Texas, ND, Oklahoma and countless others have thousands of fans in the stands, thousands of fans donating money and thousands of fans supporting them that never attended a class at those schools. SMU could reach it's goals much quicker by getting "the rest of stands" filled with non-alumni that just love college football and the great BLVD atmosphere SMU offers right here in the heart of Dallas. Each new fan whether it be an alum or just someone that loves college football is another "piece of the puzzle" in the road to SMU reaching it's goal of being a successful football program. The folks at Special Delivery are 'class acts' all the way! My family and I have enjoyed their hospitality on The Blvd. many, many times over the past few years. We're looking forward to another great SMU football season and beginning it every Saturday with the folks from Special Delivery on The Blvd.! GO MUSTANGS!
BTW: Great idea on the payroll deduction! More companies in Dallas need to adopt the same concept. Wonder if we could convince the folks at Belo/Dallas Morning News to do it, too? ![]()
