I thought that other than the TD -- when he seemed to get his feet tangled while trying to time his jump -- Lowery played pretty well. He has, after all, exactly four games at CB under his belt. He's learning, but clearly he has some promise.

Justin Willis- umm.. 15-24 for 151 yds very good when your team runs up 250+ yds rushing.. how about 9tds in his last 35 completions.. those are option QB numbers, HUGE... I loved his patience, maybe he stayed in the pocker to long but there was one play when he could have taken off running but he stayed behind the line of scrimmage and ended up completing a first down and there was another play when he avoided the rush 3 times and then was smart and threw the ball away.. mapps was supposed to go back on a throwback but he didn't.. Mapps and Dorsey- 257 rushing yards enough said.. broke tackles, i don't remember exactly how they did pass blocking though...mapps nearly averaged 10 yds a carry and how about that td late in teh game.. Kennedy- three tds very nice.. he is going to wreck havoc on def game plans chase- used his body very well on a 3rd down conversion slant pattern.. then the big play...had his break out game sanders and givens- had their off week.. but did you see sanders decleater on mapps 30+ yd run before half.. WOW J Rog- 3 sacks and a forced fumble.. he used his head though, he couldn't get the sack so he slapped it out of qb's hand.. heads up.. also had 6 tackles haywood bonds- anchored the defense which gave up less than a 100 yds rushing to a team that "can run the ball" LB's- hawkins had 9 solo tackles, making the transition well.. carrington huge hit on qb near our goalline and had 5 tackles w/ 2 TFL... 2ndary- lowry forgot his def helmet and tried to make a pick and was burned... other than that ark st. could not his the side of a barn w/ a pass but true frosh mccann did have a pick and a fumble recovery... special teams- moorestead.. 50 yd fg wind aided but still 50 yd fg.. his punting was fantastic, not wind aided.. coverage was fantastic, the box score i saw had ark st w/ 7 return yds, that cannot be right considering they had atleast 8 returns.. but coverage was fantastic.. i would like to see a little more hang time in cunninghams KO's though.. line drives don't help unless they take crazy bounces overall - the team dominated in all three categories..
McCann's pick was a nice play for sure. Great jump on that pass.
Why hasnt anyone mentioned Joe Sturdivant. I saw #29 all over the field. Not to mention the caused fumble on the goal line.
There were a couple of jump balls in the second quarter that he mistimed as well, but they went out of bounds. He had coverage problems during the course of the game. Stallion, you are correct. The defensive formation where our corners stay low and our safties cover up the line was almost costly several times because the saftey was late getting over. A good passing team will kill us for that; luckily, this QB threw the ball out of bounds several times on that deep ball. Goode is late getting over to cover the wings, and takes bad angles at times. That is going to hurt us sooner or later. Goode, Lowery, and McCann (who is going to be fantastic) will all improve as the season goes on, but I don't know if we will improve enough to be ready for that UTEP game.
From what I have been able to gather, nobody outside the coaching staff knows and nobody is going to know until he walks onto the field in either pads or jeans.
