Let me point out to you what he means by a Prep School. There are high schools that allow students to play a post graduate year of sports. They are mostly in the east and many are military schools. Fork Union Academy and Hargrove Military Academy in Virginia comes to mind. I know they boast of two Heisman Trophy grads. These are students who for the most part graduated from high school with a less than 2.0 average or had a horrendous SAT score and did not take college preparatory courses in high school. By going to a prep school for a year, they can get themselves to a level that they can go to college.
In Texas we call it a Juco.
not exactly, because as I understand it you don't lose any eligibility by going to prep school, but you do by going the Juco route.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Point made. Can we get some of these players, or do they even exist in college football? They still have to come in and learn the schemes, as well as learn what bout the program. In basketball it is different due to 5 on 5 and other simple aspects. If you are 6-6 230 and can play, you can play! Football is a totally different animal, we all know this.
Or even gray shirt/red shirt!
You mean when you wrote that Bamba was "at least 2 or 3 years away from contributing" because he came off the bench in high school? Or how about when you wrote that Coach Bennett's decision to play the Justin Willis was going to render the SMU offense incapable of scoring/moving the ball while your "best QB on the roster," Chris Phillips, served as a backup and then moved positions? This comment is not to bash Phillips, because I like him and think he was a decent player who could have become a very good one -- who knows. But the fact is that Coach Bennett was right to play Willis, Mr. CUSA Freshman of the Year, Mr. Freshman All-America. The reason I remember your "Bamba is a few years away" and "playing Willis is just wrong" comments is because at the time, I agreed with you. I was wrong, and so were you. So instead of mocking Ponyboy and anyone else who simply has an opinion that's different from yours, try lightening up and explaining your opinion rather than mocking anyone who has a different opinion. Don't come back with "because my opinion's right," either. I think about your comments (the ones I admittedly agreed with) every time Bamba swats a shot into the bench and each time Willis extends his touchdown records. Say it with me: WE WERE WRONG. It won't kill you. Admit it.
Never said Bamba was 2-3 years away from contributing and never claimed Chris Phillips should be starting over Justin Willis this year. I strongly supported Justin Willis after the spring game and after NTSU when some said Slater should get a chance. Other than you completely manufacturing your argument to make yourself look good you are 100% right. Now about 2-3 years ago in the context of Romo and Eckert I said that SMU should not be playing for 2004 and 2005 by using second tier stop gap QBs but instead should have developed Phillips for 2006 which I saw as SMU's best chance for a bowl game. Then I said that Bennett would rue the Day he didn't develop Phillips and that it would possibly cost him his job in 2006 if he didn't go to a Bowl Game. It very possibly did as Christian Slater was completely unprepared against UTEP-a Senior experienced QB even as a Backup could have been the difference between a bowl game and 6-6. Everybody knows Phil Bennett came very close to losing his job-I'll stand by my prediction. I was and am right about Bamba as he will score 1 point against quality Division 1A opponent and then score 17 against a Division II team. He is a 2-3 year project. Hasn't made much progress at all this year against quality opposition.
I follow recruiting so much that I don't get to see as many games as I'd like (made it to two this year), but I didn't know Christian Slater had given up his Hollywood career to play football. ![]()

Re: [deleted]
1.first off you say listening to you makes us all $%&#(@ idiots, so please spare us and stop posting... 2. thank-you for listing me in a Satllion thread, let alone as placing me in the same thought... 3. but stallion IS one of the most educated posters on this board about recruiting, etc. WEST DIVISION CHAMPS 2010
That's a big concern of mine too and my main objection to the incessant vitriol. Stallion and his converts aren't going away, though. I can only hope I'm wrong and that his program does us some good. An argument can be made that it already has as many of the changes he's called for over the years have come to fruition -- such as a lessening in admission standards for athletes. Or maybe jt's right and no one of consequence reads this or takes any of it seriously anyway.
