We all know that kids don't move toward us early unless (1) they really want to come here. (2) They haven't gotten any other offers. (3) They don't think they're going to get other offers from BCS programs that interest them. Until UT, OU, and A&M fill their slots, other schools rarely get committments. As far as the College and University of North Texas getting three (3) recruits already, I don't know if they were ones that we were truly interested in, or all the things surrounding their choice of school.
I'll bet you any amount that McGuffie DOES play running back, and for a top level BCS school Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!
Long live the Circle of Champions!
You are really laughable ![]() Franklin had offers from Tulsa, Iowa State & Colorado State Taylor was offered by Tulsa & had strong interest from Utah Williams was being targeted by Rice & was to attend their summer camp, had interest from Tulsa & several other schools They may not be good enough for you, but they're certainly good enough for programs much better than the Ponies ! ![]()
Of course it would NEVER be the case that maybe we weren't interested in these recruits because they don't fit are team model, behavioral issues, stacked at the position, wouldn't consider us anyway for a variety of reasons, or have something about thgem that doesn't sit right. It just HAS to be SMU sucks and they would never consider playing for such a poor program.
Bet he plays in the slot. Even he has said he is more suited for that position.
I can see him playing like Anthony Aldridge of UH. Starting out in the slot, taking some carries in the backfield. They both have the same type of game-changing speed Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!
Long live the Circle of Champions!
SMU didn't even have Josh LeReibus (sic?) or Zach Rhodes this early. And until Texas started this "stack them early" crap, we wouldn't care. On a related note, the NCAA should prohibit offers until September 1st or later of their senior year. All this crap would stop. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." Why should they do that? To help programs who can't compete with the current conditions of recruiting? I for one like the early offers because they benifit the kids receiving them most. If UT/SMU/College for the Deaf and Blind commit abcxyz has a bad start to his senior year, has a slight injury or any number of other things the school will generally still honor his scholarship.
I'll concede that it can be good for the kids receiving them, particularly in regards to your example. As for helping programs who can't compete, you're d@mn right I think they should do that. If we all collectively want a farm league, then great. Just don't create it in colleges and have the NCAA sanction it. By reaching that much deeper into high schools, the bar is pushed farther and farther back such that performance must be seen earlier and earlier. What happened to a kid just being able to play a little ball with some other kids? I think it is wrong. As for its direct effect on SMU, I want to pre-empt the accusation that I am focusing on the external threats in comparison to much more damaging internal weaknesses. I know that SMU has its own cross to bear, and a host of strategic blunders to boot. However, nothing good has come to SMU because of early commitments. Nada. Zippo. So why be an advocate of it? The BCS is currently the most significant strategic "barrier to entry" for a school to compete with the "already-haves". That said, the current recruiting process buttresses the barrier by concentrating recruiting toward those schools. Again, why support a process that hurts SMU, regardless of whether it hurts SMU directly or indirectly? Just my not-so-humble opinion. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]."
