Carlton Cooper, who played basketball at Texas from 1981-85, will be announced Tuesday as Texas A&M-Commerce’s new athletic director.
He spent the past nine years as an assistant athletic director at Southern Methodist University.
Cooper was a high-leaping 6-foot, 3-inch wing player for the Longhorns whose fan-pleasing dunks were called “Coop hoops.†He led the team in scoring as a junior in 1983-84 with a 17.2 average, and was taken in the sixth round of the 1985 draft by the Dallas Mavericks.
