Carlton Cooper, who played basketball at Texas from 1981-85, will be announced Tuesday as Texas A&M-Commerce’s new athletic director.
He spent the past nine years as an assistant athletic director at Southern Methodist University.
Cooper was a high-leaping 6-foot, 3-inch wing player for the Longhorns whose fan-pleasing dunks were called "Coop hoops." He led the team in scoring as a junior in 1983-84 with a 17.2 average, and was taken in the sixth round of the 1985 draft by the Dallas Mavericks.

Good for Him!
Actually, before I came to SMU, I spent my freshman year in Commerce on the East Texas State (what it was called back then) football team and really enjoyed my time there. It is a fun school and town and they definitely cater to the students and is a tight knit community. I am sure he will enjoy it in Commerce and will be a good move for him in the long run.
