Now that NFL Europe is gone....

Postby ponyfan84 » Fri Jun 29, 2007 6:32 pm

Well as most of you have heard by now, the NFL Europe has folded. What a tragedy. Anyways, since that's gone, will Mark Cuban still pursue that pro football league he was thinking of creating? Looks like a good opportunity as if he plays this right, could turn it into a winner.

He should make an 8 team league and try to place the teams in small market cities that will pack the place every week. Cities like LA (don't have a pro team, although USC is pretty much one), San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Birmingham, Milwaukee, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Syracuse, Hartford, Mexico City, anywhere in S. Carolina, Lexington/Louisville, Salt Lake City, Portland, and Richmond are all possible candidates. If you start a league, you want to avoid cities with pro teams as they will just be over shadowed by the pro team. I would love to see a league develop, maybe not for developmental purposes but as a compliment to the NFL. Thoughts?

Hey...don't forget Dallas. We don't have a team either unless you insist on referring to the soon to be Tarrant County Cowboys as the Dallas Cowboys. :D

No...It looks like he's too busy suing his former coach for exploiting his team in the playoffs. I have a man-crush on Cuban and all, but

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban claims in an ongoing dispute with his former coach that Don Nelson used "confidential information" to help the Golden State Warriors pull off a stunning first-round playoff victory.

You have got to be kidding me. What's next, he'll threaten to take his ball and go home?

Methinks the anesthetics from his hip replacement surggery Friday seriously short-circuited his brain.

Probably had to have it replaced after one too many mutant dances on the sideline.

Arena football is all

Postby Sam I Am » Sun Jul 01, 2007 4:18 pm

Any USA minor league football league besides the Arena league is doomed to failure. The USFL folded and the market just isn't there for more than we've got. The collapse of the European league is a bad omen for any American venture.

To be honest, the USFL did itself in. I don't know enough about the model of the XFL as to why it failed, but I will say that for my part I wasn't interested in Football in Feb.

But the USFL's Spring/Summer schedule could probably still work. But going head to head with the NFL (or in Cuban's case, High School ball... what a dumb [deleted]) is just a bad bad idea.

Anyhow, start the season the weekend after the draft and wrap it up just before training camp. That should be a 12-15 game season. Of course I don't want to accept liability for the Arizona Sidewinder's linemen training in 120 degree heat, but hey... build a dome.
