And here's your new SMU Football ad campaign!Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower
Whew, I'm glad you added that second sentence. As I started reading it I thought this thread would quickly become x-rated. ![]() Official Cult of Chris Phillips Member
How bout..
"No More Horsin' Around" Of course Lone Star Park's is great.. "The Horses are ready.. are you?" What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.
LF68 .... ROFL - me too.
I do like the Pony Up campaign, as long as it's in conjunction with other things... like the Red Sox players... Cowboy Up, and then the team getting the Dropkick Murphy's to do an update on Tessie. Great stuff. Too bad they had to beat my Cards in the series. But I am no longer bitter after last year. And can now be happy for them... Pony Up...... how 'bout some "___________ is my Homeboy" tee-shirts to go with it... like the Jesus looking Johnny Damn back then? I don't know who we have with long hair. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh

IF this is the campaign, then it is a big disappointment (I said if). If you put it on a billboard, people will assume it points to either the SMU campaus (if they recognize the mustang) or some ranch offering pony rides. If you put this on TV, people will look up at their ceiling and go "huh?"
95% of people will not understand this slogan if it is not explained to them. Plus, it's not even creative, it's something we laughed about when I was in school, right along side other all time greats like "Hoof 'em".
I'm no bid time ad major or anything, but I agree with those who think an updated Mustang Mania campaign is the way to go. It evokes memories of when we were actually good, and was started prior to the really cheating teams of the '80s, around the only cheating some teams of the late '70s.
"Mustang Mania is back on the SMU campus. You should be too." Or something to that effect.
Or a Ford Dealership ![]() -CoS
That right there is a better idea than this. Just like the "available in cotton" slogan when we played in the cotton bowl, we could talk to Ford and maybe use "SMU football: built Ford tough"

MM65 Updated the original post with a picture. Hrmm... don't know if I'm on board.... But one thing I'll say is it's simple and clean... but yeah... can't say it has me. We'll see... I'm still a fan of: ![]() Well, not really... just wanted to post that picture again. ![]() ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
No, but you are an engineer. I say we put you in the cab of a locomotive driving what we can bill as the "New Pony Express" on the way to deliver a big batch of Mustang Mania to Ford Stadium.
dont know if anyone has ever noticed this but on the dallas morning news website, ive been seeing alot of Baylor Football ads? Does SMU not want to place ads on their own cities major news paper website or is it just some contract that baylor has with DMN?
anyone else noticed the ad banners on the DMN site? sure wish SMU had sum ad banners on it.
Exactly. I'm there.
Myrdel and others are correct that we shouldn't jump to any conclusions. But having seen some really bad slogans/campaigns over the last 20 years makes me skeptical of the upcoming work. Richards Group has done some excellent work and some really bad work. I hope they will surprise me with something much stronger than what MrMustang has posted.
The artwork is terrible and if this is targeting people outside the SMU family, how many of these will make the "pony" connection to SMU. The use of "Ponies", from my perspective, normally comes from insiders or those very faithful few fans that hang out on sites like this. 35straight in 24 hours came up with a stronger campaign theme. Its relevant and compelling for those both in and outside the university community. I might tinker with the colors and font a wee bit though. ![]()
Has anyone taken MM65's advice and looked at TRG's website and their Baylor campaign last year? Evidently their "Call of the Wild" or whatever it was included Baylor football players jumping into water and coming up with a fish (get it...the Bear gets its fish?)
Now, I may be wrong here, but didn't Eddie Murphy propose the very same marketing campaign? Only the "Bear" would come up and say "goony goo goo?" now for my own ad slogan. SMU Football: Your butts, our seats. Ford Stadium. Fill 'er up!
