I thought the official got it right all the way around-and Phil should have known that too after an explanation. On that play he dug his own grave as I'm sure WE all stated to every one around us when UTEP converted the onsides kick. Anyone? Everyone?
RGV great mids think alike - you posted yours while I was writing mine- weird.

Supposedly PB was arguing that they still had 2 seconds on the clock and the ref should not have let it run down. Thus the blow up and the reset is history as the propellar is starting to show as the Good Ship Mustang slips coldly in to the North Atlantic.
Captain, I need my deck chair!
Are you sure we declined? I was almost certain we accepted. Edit: Just found the play-by-play on smumustangs.com. We declined the offsides. My mistake.
I keep seeing mistakes laid at the foot of the players (Treadway21, I am not implying that is your point), however, at some point teaching of awareness is the coaches responsibility. A "HEADS UP" ball player is guided by a good coach. I dont see that any of your players are what I would consider a "HEADS UP" player. How many of us played a sport growing up where we had situational practices, for instance, 1st and third with two outs, or 15 seconds on the clock, rebound comes to you. This is just another instance of poor coaching.
Pony94 you are exactly right. The coaches should have been drilling that into the players heads right before the play was called... they obviously set up the play (hard count and if they jump offsides, go deep)... but no-one told them to be sure and get down in enough time to call timeout.
It wasn't good awarness by Sledge, in an otherwise great game for him. He's a senior, he should've been aware of the clock and the situation and either gone down, or run out of bounds. Unlike the Cowboys game a week or two ago, the refs got it right, there shouldn't have been any time left. Phil just threw gas into the fire by getting the penalty
