Same old issues regarding attendance. I just don't think the average SMU fan is going to come out to see Southwest Academy at Beaumont State College play for non-conf. Rice is playing TCU 2x, UT, OU, and A&M.

He does state in the article trying to lure Kansas and Duke to play us and they won't.

The heart-thumping thrill of big-time college basketball is enough to fill arenas on many campuses, but not at the University of Miami, where the men's basketball team has played before small crowds in recent years. What's missing?

the Florida university plans to install a hot tub, a sandbox, and a lifeguard tower in the student section of its arena. Officials will encourage students to wear beach attire to the games.

Miami is also dropping the price of season tickets and adding several in-game services, including massages, haircuts, and shoeshines. Throw in a dolphin tank, and everyone just might forget that the Hurricanes were 12-20 last season. —Eric Hoover

Winning, consistently, cures cancer & fan problems. We start winning & the fans will 'begin' to show. It wont happen over night but it will happen. Don't know why we have to keep bringing this up.

Even if they did win i don't think people would show up. SMU fans won't come unless the team is playing a big name and SMU has a chance to win. No one came to the games against OU and OSU the last couple of years.

I think everyone is missing the point about attendance and big name teams. If Doherty can assemble a team that can play with the big boys, and actually WIN some of those games, then you will see crowds at Moody. As it stands right now, playing a good big name school will certainly draw a larger crowd than any teams on this years schedule, but when everyone knows that the end result will be a beat down it's pretty hard to excite the fan base.

But what Doherty is saying is that you should come support your team, regardless of who they are playing, or how they are playing. Recruits want to play in front of a full crowd. And the team actually draws energy from the crowd. So if there is no crowd...
