"Friday, November 16, 2007 ANUTTER 1 Down Not that we didn't know it but Arkansas now has an opening. Houston Nutt leaked through some of his friendly reporters today that he has 4 offers but the jobs still have coaches so he waiting to see. I say he has offers, Baylor and SMU. Take the SMU gig, you'll thank me for it. Nutt leaked this info to attempt to drive his price up in upcoming negotiations. HE IS NOT ALREADY SIGNED WITH BAYLOR. It is a distinct possibility but he has not signed a deal. Georgia Tech and Central Florida are still on his radar It seems that as of right now Arkansans for Butch are going to have to do without. Jeff Long has to establish total indpendence from the BOT members so that means no Butch. I don't blame Long here, he is just coming off a situation where Dave Wanndstedt, booster favorite, was shoved down his throat and it backfired. But Mr. Long, Butch is the best man for this job. (disclaimer: not saying Butch is completely out, but the entire BOT is going to have to be on board, not likely) With the timing of this though, this puts Bo Pelini back in the mix. Can Jeff Long stike his deal before the others get their mits on him? This will be a wild ride I stand by my list of candidates as there are no new candidiates at this time. Bill Cowher will not coach the hogs. Congratulations hog fans Duke Hey Dukies, the Al Borges rumors aren't slwoing down. Thanks"
Houston Nutt will not coach the Ponies.
So how do you feel about Butch?
Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein.

I posted that message not because of the Nutt to SMU line but more importantly the "Jeff Long has to establish total indpendence from the BOT members so that means no Butch" line.

I think Butch Davis fits the mold for just about everyone out there who is interested in bringing the right person for the job.
Can we get him...possibly...does he want to come here....possibly....why would he leave a bcs school for SMU...I have not clue, but people have their own motivations.
I'm not posting just because I have nothing else better to do; I'm posting because I think he is a real candidate.
Mariucci, Davis, and Bowden all seem to have the majority of what we are all looking for.
For people stating things as "a matter of fact" about possible candidates should either have confirmation from Orsini or stop acting like our school will never have a chance at someone we all wish we could have.
Life is funny. When you shoot for the top, you just may hit it!

Davis would be at the top of the list of names mentioned to me. charismatic, intense, Dallas Cowboy connections, success at a private school (ok i am stretching on the U being comparable to us in any way).
Barnett would be good, dont know why he is so untouchable. Bowden, ok. Mason ok.
If you cant get any of em, you go Turner Gill. He is a tremendous fit for us.
