Now it looks like Georgia Tech is in the middle of a bidding war with the national football power that is SMU. Do I hope this whole thing blows up? No, of course not, at this point, as incompetent as Tech has looked throughout this carnival, I think we'd be lucky to land a coach like Paul Johnson.

According to the GT board, they are negotiating between SMU, PJ, and GT right now and has been going on most of the day

I'm not a Johnson fan but I have grudging respect with how Orsini has put this effort together-makes me have a tad bit more confidence and hope that he ain't blowing smoke on putting the last few pieces to the puzzle together. My future support has never and will not be based on the Coach we get even if its not one of my Ten Favorites. It will be based on the implementation of a Model which will allow us to compete. Finish the implementation of the Model and I would increase my support for the program despite the Coaching choice.

If we can get Johnson, I am going to request that you give him a chance before you set in on him. We know that the "model" is slowly being tweaked and hopefully Johnson or whomever we hire has done his due diligence and worked to get it better. But what I like about Johnson is what appears to be the ability to get the most he can out of limited resources. If we can win some games, gain some fan support, start picking up some better recruits, then the whole situation could snowball into something positve. Any coach will be an improvement, but this just might be the best pick for our situation. But in the long run, yes, we need to be able to get JCs, transfers and recruits that our competition is currently getting and we are not able.

I just hope that when all is said and done, we find some way to learn what actually has transpired in this process.

Hey, everybody, this is Stallion's way of saying, "OK, maybe Paul Johnson could be ok here. I'll give him a chance." Image

I agree with the implementation point. To me the most important objective is to define, gain acceptance and implement SMU's own formula for success. The model or formula needs to be unique by addressing and solving our own challenges:

- non-BCS, private school
- Texas FB history and environment
- academic realities
- recent record vs. historical past
- unmotivated student body.

Someone will be able to prescribe the right solution, but implementing in our specific situation is key.

We are not BCS, a state school or have a large alumni base Vs our historical and regional competitiors. It can and will be solved by the right coach, AD, Athletic Department and Administration.
