Some would call this a trend:
2001 Miami 12-0 7-0 1st W Rose Bowl † 1 1
2002 Miami 12-1 7-0 1st L Fiesta Bowl † 2 2
2003 Miami 11-2 6-1 1st W Orange Bowl † 5 5
Miami: 35-3 20-1
Miami Hurricanes (Atlantic Coast Conference) (2004 – 2006)
2004 Miami 9-3 5-3 W Peach Bowl 11 11
2005 Miami 9-3 6-2 L Peach Bowl 18 17
2006 Miami 7-6 3-5 W MPC Computers Bowl
A better look at the situation would also show that Miami actually had a much tougher time of things once they left the Big Waste and moved to the ACC. However, Coker was 3-0 against Florida and 5-2 against Florida State. Too many quality games in the ACC compared to the cream puff schedule they had of beating Va Tech for the Big East title every year.
Hold on. I think I am making a case for this guy. My bad. Coker sucks and he killed the Miami program. It will never be the same and is on a slippery slope on it's way to becoming Vandy.

Coach Salaries
Who is the best target that SMU can give a raise? I do not see that Coker is a current coach on this list?

whatever, everybody has a price. Better offer Gill $2 mil per year before you hire Coker and ruin this program beyond repair if its not already there.

It will never be the same and is on a slippery slope on it's way to becoming Vandy.
if you look at it like that, you can just turn a blind eye and say the ACC was to blame for the U's downfall...thats what im kind of doing...
but i still belieave LC is a great coach

While I would prefer Barnett over Coker, it would be an okay hire. We could and have done worse. Why has it taken so long for us to interview Coker? Didn't Miami have some NCAA type problems while Coker was coach? It seems to me that there was some shopping trip to a shoe store or something like that?

And you cannot tell me we waited all this time to hire Larry Freakin Coker from the unemployment line. ridiculous. Turner Gill would be 10 times the better hire, as would several other guys including Barnett. Please tell me this is not true.
ENOUGH ALREADY WITH TURNER GILL.
tough crap. We should be throwing big money at Gill before we hire an old retread like Larry Coker.
Gills not leaving Buffalo, so enough
whatever, everybody has a price. Better offer Gill $2 mil per year before you hire Coker and ruin this program beyond repair if its not already there.
id rather hire a proven coach, especially if he has a NC on his resume instead of a coach that hasnt done that much in his young career. not a knock on Gill but i dont want to wasted 7 more years watching a team stay in the gutter
Coker did not leave Miami in shambles. Miami is not a good team right now for two reasons: 1) no qb and 2) they lose a lot of players to the NFL and have to rebuild. Most on this board are delusional. We are SMU. The same SMU that has had only 1 winning season in 20 years. SMU interviews a coach who has won a National Championship and you are complaining about it......ggggeeezzz.

What's humorous to me is that Stallion (and others) would rather have a high school coach than one who has won the National Championship. I'm sure the Miami players just coached themselves to the title that year. Almost won it by themselves the next year as well, but got screwed over (controversial, I know).
Only at SMU. I guess bring on Scooter Smith from WE R. High.

What I find funny is when someone mentioned the possiblity of Butch Davis coming here early in this search everyone thought that would be a brilliant move and he would be a savior. And now there is talk of Larry Coker who took kids that Butch couldnt win a NC with and won one and should have won 2 if it werent for officiating and he would be a bad hire.
