you do not want him!
if you want further proof go to this canes board and ask anyone, ask for a poster named Shadow or Nole80 and you will get very respected opinions
i think by saying he ruined your program is a sign that youre blind to the fact that the U is just plain overrated in the ACC...only three loses when Coker coached in the big east...ACC has a lot better talent than the Big East
1. yes he can. 1-11 doesnt mean it cant get worse 3. with butch davis' players and recruiting class
1. No he can't. 3. Who cares. He was OC and they won.
Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry are dead. This is a great coach. I believe that Orsini has an ace in the hole, but we should be really excited if we got Coker. He is a great coach. National championship and national coach of the year under his belt. WOW!
so, why would he come to SMU if he's so great? Why would Tulsa choose to hire a rookie head coach from Rice instead? Wow is right, but not the good kind of wow hire.
Did Tulsa win the National Championship?

No, your point? They took a look at Coker and said thanks but no thanks, even though he is a Tulsa former coach. They went to Rice to get their coach instead of the utterly available Coker.
Thank goodness you are not in charge of finding a coach. That is my point.
the feeling is totally mutual. If your idea of "finding" a coach is settling for Larry Freakin Coker who has been passed on by half of CUSA West, you might not be as savvy as you think. Why didn't Houston hire Coker, they are more like the U than we are. Tulsa, Houston, Rice...Coker wanted all those jobs no doubt. They passed.

You are right. I will trust you instead of Orsini. You are clearly more qualified.

Since Coker won 2 national championships and the U(a very average team) hasn't won one since, who's ruining the program now??? Why haven't they won since Coker?
Why didn't Butch Davis who is a good coach by the way win a national championship with the same talent Coker had the first 2 seasons?

yeah man no doubt your a genius can i hire you to work for me i need some to clean my bathrooms
First, what were Tulsa and Rice offering a new coach salarywise? They might not have been able to meet Coker's salary demands. And to the guy who said that Houston is more like the University of Miami than SMU put down the crack pipe. The University of Miami is a PRIVATE school located in a large urban area. Hmm, that sort of sounds like SMU. Miami's average SAT scores are higher than SMU's. Hmm, doesn't sound like Houston. Some of their stars like Sean Taylor went to private high schools and were good students. Really doesn't sound like Houston. In other words, the guy is used to dealing with academic issues. On the other hand the ACC hasn't really been a world beater since the U arrived. Wake Forest won last year, Virginia Tech (another BE refugee) won the other two years. Schools like FSU, Georgia Tech, UNC, Maryland and Virginia have not been world beaters. And of course there is Duke who is every bit as bad as Temple was in the BE.
Even if LC was passed over by Rice and UH, we could have worse things than a coach with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove, especially to in-conference schools. I think the PJ situation (and common sense) should've made it clear to everyone that the SMU job is not the most sought after, and this isn't some playground game where we should be afraid of the nerd picked last. A ton of variables go into who is hired at different schools, and we could do a whole lot worse than Coker, his NC, and his experience running a premier program.
People b!tched about Bennett not managing a game/preparing his players well and merely being a good x's and o' coordinator. Now, there's a chance to get a guy who has proven he can manage a game well and win (better than his predecessor Butch Davis probably), and people say he's merely a bus driver. Even if he had great athletes he was coaching, so did Mack Brown, Lloyd Carr, and numerous other top notch programs and they weren't as successful as Coker was with those great players. What gives?
