Does this mean you wouldn't take Nick Saban or Bobby Patrino either?

Phil Bennett would have left if he didn't suck. Widely rumored he actually took an interview in Dallas near the end of last season.
Fran doesn't leave if he doesn't win or we don't fire him. I don't understand why people can't figure that out. I don't blame coaches for leaving and taking other jobs. Being loyal cost USM's Bower millions.
BTW, I once left a job for more money and responsibility. Does that make me a weasel?

(1) They are too old;
(2) They would not be able to build up a program from scratch; and
(3) They would not be able to recruit.

i agree with what you're saying, but I just can't have respect for someone who tries for 13 games of a 16 game schedule and then leaves by calling the owner on his way to Arky and leaving a note he had copied at Kinkos that afternoon

Who cares? If it is down to him and someone unproven, why not take him, let him recruit for a few years, then leave. We are better off, he is better off. Win/win.
Better to have a great coach for 2 or 3 years than a medicore coach for 5 or 6.

(4) Your crack habit is oustripping the humor of your handle.
Seriously, how on earth would either of them be too old? Given that your first contention can be rejected out of hand I really don't think you'll be able to support your second or third.
Either way, it's all supra since the whole point was that ponynut was citing the "bolt-factor" as a reason to reject a candidate. I'm just curious if that applies to all coaches, or just Fran.

I think his post was tongue-in-cheek.

I think you're right. Sorry Bologna Pony, my sense of humor signed with UCLA over the weekend.

Not a problem.
(5) Both Saban and Petrino owe their success to the inheritance of talented players.
I would write more, but I just burned my fingers on my crack pipe and typing hurts.

The letters "SMU" probably never rolled off of his lips during the entire time he was at aTm, sad to say.

He probably said "Since you did not attend their camp they will not bother you."
