No qualifications, just reality. But reality is a pretty good teammate
How many conference champions have you hired? Just like them and unlike Orsini....NONE!
How many Div 1 stadiums have you got built? Just like them and unlike Orsini.....NONE!
How many hundreds of millions have you raised for an athletic program? Just like them and unlike Orsini.....NONE
Thanks for helping me make my case!
If you're going to question the folks who question Orsini, I'm going to question the ones who don't.
Yes please do.....fire away....I will be more than happy to repeat why I don't question Orsini. Mainly and again it is REALITY.....REALITY is: we dont know the whole story. I don't sit back not knowing anywhere near the whole picture and take pot shots at a guy with a proven track record in these kind of endeavors.
There is a big difference......I am not pretending I know more than Orsini about athletic administration.... they are!
NEXT?
All good answers. Makes your sunshiner opinion no better than the naysayer's, so if you wnat the naysayer to shut the hell up then so should you.

Exactly. The admin loves people like you who don't question anything. This is why we are in the shape we are in.
I question plenty of things, but what I question the most is......why you are here?
Why do you choose to follow SMU football and be a fan of an administration's team that you seem to loathe and have such a low opinion of?
I worked with a guy like you once, after ten years of hearing him complain & moan every single day I finally asked him..."do you have a ball & chain around your ankle?". "If it's soooooo terrible why dont you go find somewhere else to work"?

"Makes your sunshiner opinion no better than the naysayer's"
Better? Not sure who decides whats "better". Personally I think sunshine is "better" than darkness.
My position is more logical They are "shooting in the dark"..... Making assumptions about Orsini when they know very little of the complete story.
so if you wnat the naysayer to shut the hell up then so should you.
Actually I am pleased that they keep digging a deeper hole because "judgement day" is just around the corner and all the bozos demeaning SMU saying "no one wants to come here" are gonna be the laughing stock of this board. Of course I doubt they will ever admit they were dead wrong.

Insane_Pony_Posse wrote:No. Clearly he is a huge upgrade.
OMG.......hip hip hooray!....We agree on something!
That doesn't mean he is the best available coach for the situation at SMU.
And it doesn't mean he isn't the best available. Again we don't know all the facts. However if ten people were doing the hiring, we might get 10 differennt coaches. "The best available coach" is not subjective is it?
Yes. You're right. We don't have all the facts, and we don't know if he is or is not the best available coach. All we have is his track record. Jones has only ever coached (in college) at Hawaii, and his teams were made up of ex-cons, transfers, and polynesians. I saw an article (the espn one?) that claimed he hasn't even had a recruiting trip to the mainland in years. SMU has not allowed much in the way of ex-cons or transfers since I was an infant. SMU also does not have a historical connections with pacific islanders because we are in the middle of Texas, which is not an island in the middle of the pacific! Conversely, someone like Fran has a long history of recruiting Texas and DFW, successfully, which is what SMU has always sought. That is a track record. And yes, 'the best coach' is subjective. So is the answer to 'is orisni doing a good job'. Nobody on this board (except 'Top25' who is obviously an SMU employee) knows all the info on either subject. That is why we are discussing it. You, however, seem to be as far off into rose-colored-glasses land that you are no different from biggin who is negitive about everything. You take complaining about Orsini like some kind of personal attack on you. I bet you thought Bennett was a "good man" too? I know I post mostly crap on this board, or just try to rile people up, and rarely contribute anything of value but sunshiners like what you seem to be are why SMU is in this mess. The same people who believed all the Copeland BS, the 'Bennett needs a contract extension', "The Committment", etc etc., and just moved on to the next pie-in-the-sky empty promise SMU made every time you realized you had been duped. We simply do not know if Jones can recruit high level talent to SMU. The type of player he has recruited is very very different from what SMU has allowed in the past.
And you could say the exact same thing about Jimmy Johnson and Bob Stoops.
Yes, you could. And I would.

Well said Big Al, I too have mostly endured much pain
through the years, but if I beleived we would always
stink, then why would I continue to support the team
it is easy to complain right now, but some of our
"fans" will always whine about something.

The one thing that I know about you without question is that you like the sunshine better. I am sure you can put a positive spin on our 0-12 season if you put your mind to it.
As far as making assumptions about Orsini without knowing the complete story, how again is that not exactly what you are doing?? Are you criticizing yourself too?

BINGO! I knew it.

Wrong again.
The same people who believed all the Copeland BS, the 'Bennett needs contract extension', "The Committment", etc etc.,
Wrong again. I could not stand Mike Cavan and thought Copeland should have been fired years before he left. Bennett should have been fired right after the Rice game season before last.
and just moved on to the next pie-in-the-sky empty promise SMU
Pie in the sky?
Since when was SMU offering 1.5 million a year to a football head coach?
You think thats "pie in the sky"?

It's pie-in-the-sky until it brings in a good coach who can recruit and win at SMU.
I judge success on the basis of wins at SMU.

It is not "pie in the sky" that we are now competing with the big boys pay-wise.
"I judge success on the basis of wins at SMU"
So you would not think it was "a success" for SMU to land a Barnett/Fran/June Jones over an unknown coordinator since neither had any wins at SMU?

Yes, that's what I'm saying. It makes me feel good to judge things this way, since then I know that you, me, and stallion have all had the same number of wins as an SMU coach, and thus are all equal. Now we can get together and sip white zinfandel!

He will win and do it within the rules. He has never had a problem with graduation or problem kids. He will build a program we can be proud of.

so let me get this straight you honestly do not think it would be a success for SMU to hire Urban Meyer over some unknown because neither have a win at SMU?
