His backup had more career touchdowns. Categorical no. But I'll admit that his numbers aren't exactly eyesores either. A solid 3rd rounder.

Big Daddy is talking sense. Jones went 12-1 with crappy facilities, it didn't hurt him at all. What amazes me, and probably Jones, is that the Hawaii AD waited until two days ago to renegotiate his contract to try to retain him. when it's been reported that we contacted them on 12/26? WTF??? Pure incompetence.

Take a look at the QB's in the NFL now. If Sims was healthy, there are several team he could be playing for now. The QB situation in the NFL is pitiful. After the top ten, the rest suck. You got 43 year old Vinny Testaverde still playing and he wasn't that good when he was young.

The NFL situation is terrible and you're right, he could compete for the start on a lot of teams. Good point.

We'll definitely miss June Jones and he has turned our program from doodoo, to Bronze.. LoL...

If he does end up at SMU, I'll be rooting for you guys. I love success stories and underdogs making it big time.

Good luck to SMU Football 2008!!!

I know its tough losing your coach, but it might wake up a few administrators and politicians over there to make the necessary changes needed for your program to attain the next level that June was aiming for. If that happens, it will work out in the long run for your school, but I know that it hurts deeply in the short run.

That's what we've thought. Jones has been trying for the last 9 years to get the facilities up to par, and each year they just lie to him. Nothing has been done and I doubt anything will ever be done. If 9years of begging doesn't cut it, I don't think anything will.

Just a question. What does facilities have to do with winning? Going 12-1 is going 12-1, whether you do it in a condo or in a dump. Have you ever been to Penn State and looked at their facilities? Nothing to brag about there. We have the best facilities pound for pound in the nation and can't get to a bowl. IMHO the facilities have nothing to do with it. JJ was ready to go due to nothing else to accomplish there.

Facilities do matter when you hardly have video equipment that they had to use a camcorder that JJ won in a raffle. Facilities do matter when there is no backup practice field so when it rain so hard in our prep for the Sugar Bowl and our grass field was in bad shape, they just canceled practice.

They don't even show recruits the locker room. I know one player who told me that his small Christian high school locker room was better than UH's.

In reality facilities have a lot to do with winning. The Warriors coaching staff didn't even have any way to watch DVD's of players. Then JJ won one in a golf tournament and that was what they used. Practice fields had to be cleaned off daily with all kinds of crap, from rocks to glass littering the field. You bring in a top high school recruit and he sees conditions like that... no way he's going to sign.

Showers with no soap... I mean it goes on and on. Yes, JJ rose above all that and was a winning coach there (76-41) but what could he have done with a much better advantage? You put JJ at Texas, USC, LSU, Miami or Nebraska... the guy would win multiple National Championships.

Ok I'm sorry but that's just sad. No wonder he's leaving Hawaii.

June Jones got lucky with 2 great athletes (Brennan and Bess) who could have played for any other D-1 school in the nation. That's why they went 12-1.

The only reason they have become a winning tradition is because Jones has brought a sense of pride back to UH. If you do your homework, go look at the previous 9 years before Jones got to UH. It was RIDICULOUSLY bad!!!

Every one of the coaches at UH knew what they were getting into before they took the job. Its not like the facilities just went to [deleted] over night. This upgrading facilities is a bunch of bull. The coaches from Hawaii damn sure knew. One of the biggest and best companies in the world operate out of a metal building in Bentonville Ark.

Yes, JJ knew... but he also believed that turning an 0-12 team around and eventually getting into a BCS bowl game would instigate change. Repeatedly he was promised things, so he kept plugging on. The lies continued and no changes were ever made.

It's no different with SMU... I'm sure your AD is making a lot of promises. Only difference is, he will probably make good on them.

They brought in 4.2 million from the Georgia game. I am hearing rumors that very little of that money will actually go to the football program... the very program that brought the money in!

Yes. And it at the very least shows a lack of communication, which is a form of incompetence.

If yall were not ready for the Sugar Bowl after 12 games, I don't know what to say to you. Nobody practices that much on the field after that many games. Its all in the film room, watching video, camcorders or whatever. It rains here as well and across the rest of the country. Not every school has indoor practice facilities. Just Southlake Carroll and Abilene High beat them without an indoor facility. Football is football. If my eleven can line up and kick your elevens [deleted], I will win. Ask Georgia.

I will say it again. If a player is not developed in HS he is not even recruited, unless he is a Herman Johnson and stands 6-8 and weighs 400lbs coming out of HS. If you can't block, tackle, catch, throw and run coming out of HS you are cheering in the stands or playing flag. Players play for winning programs and winning coaches. The recruiting coordinators at the top BCS schools are figure heads. They compete for players with who has the most to offer, who they are recruiting and playing time right now. SMU is one of the few schools that develope talent. The rest train talented players. Like film room, weight room, etc...

OK after reading this bio it doesn't say much, but Ware is a gr8 example... started college as a WR and ended up as one of the baddest LBs in the NFL.
