However, getting back to the academics issue. Since Jones has resigned, that would signal that there was common ground found on this part of the negotiations.
Perhaps Steinberg meeting before Jones got there was important to get this done and he kept in contact with Jones to let him know how it was going. So the big parts of the negotiations were done without Jones being there. That's what attorneys are for.
I've done many a deal with my people with the middle man on behalf of somebody else. This would suggest this is no different.

Bump for biggin. Iwould say this preceded you along with about 50 others. Yes there were some hangups, but there were several people during the "snag" that were saying he was going to come just as you did.

I am too happy with the hire to argue. I agree that there was a lot going on and a lot of chicken littles, but there were also several that were saying they thought the deal would happen. Just because you say that you talked to someone that said the deal was done does not automatically mean you are right. Unless it was Steinberg or Jones you speculated like all of the others. I will admit this: I had no idea that the deal was going through until I heard it from Jones himself. And that includes what you and everyone else on this board said. But I do know that you did say there was no way Jones would consider the deal and would never come to SMU so I had no reason to believe your sources when you said otherwise.
I do not mean for this to go on. I am happy with the hire and will be happier when I see some top recruits from all sources coming to SMU, and the winning begins. Until then, Peace.
