Speaking to the defnesive predictions a couple of people have made, I don't think we will be going with 7 in the box all that much considering the teams we will play this season. I would guess that we have 5 DB's on the field most of the time.

Of course, I have only read about practice, not attended as many here have.

You sir are nuts. First of all, did you see him throwing in the 11 on 11 portion of the "scrimmage"?

It goes beyond the "Scrimmage" . Ive seen several practices with Logan as the starter and I've seen two seasons of jw as the starter. Its pretty easy to see who the better athlete and QB is. Logan is not very good.

Also, if you listen to JJ's comments of late he has given several hints to the high probability of JW being the starter.

Do you have some kind of inside scoop? I mean, JJ said in his chat yesterday that he anticipates Willis is coming back, JW was around - but not practicing - at least twice at the spring practices (1 reported on here, once that I saw in the final week), and Logan Turner didn't exactly blow me away in the practices or in the Spring "game". Nothing JJ has said since the suspension has led me to believe that it is anything more than temporary.

I think Willis comes back and is our QB at Rice - Turner simply isn't ready.

StallionsModelT must be Logan's uncle who is wishing reaaaaaaaaally hard that his boy gets the nod.

Nice talk sugar mouth. I'm not related to the kid, I just like the fact that he doesn't let his team down by being a selfish punk who acts like a hotshot despite leading his team to all of one victory the previous year. I guess that's my cross to bear.

Aloha,
As a new SMU fan and reading what I have so far I think some of you are holding on to the past for some reason. JJ has said more than once that the incoming freshmen class holds the key to a lot of positions. I predict a starting backfield of Robinson, Banjo, McElroy and Smith.
Your starting recievers will include: BJ Lee, EJ, both Cole's and Quincy Whittington.

Your starting QB will be Bo Levi Mitchell. Watch and see what he will do in this summers 7 on 7, before you count him out. They have plenty of time to get him up to speed and they expect him to be the starter.

JJ is very proud of his freshmen class and remember they were all hand picked by him and his staff. Given last years record it's not hard top imagine huge changes to the roster. A depth chart now, really doesn't mean anything. This team will be awsome.

Pony Warrior,

Thanks for contributing to our board and welcome. Its very possible that Mitchell is the starter as June has gushed about him when discussing the incoming freshman class. However, that's an awful lot of responsibility for a true freshman who won't be here until summer at the earliest. I've seen his highlights and he certainly is very talented.

I know you're new to being an SMU fan, but seriously? We aren't going to start that many straight out of high school freshmen. That's crazy talk. I don't know how well you followed SMU last year, I'm going to assume you didn't at all, but this team wasn't miles behind it's competition. Last year's team lost because of attitude and discipline and a rather sucky defense. We don't need a massive overhaul on offense. We'll see what June decides to do, but I'll have to question his sanity if he decides to start that many true freshman.

He also said he fully expects him to be back in the fall at the Young Alumni event at the Stadium Club on Monday. However, I have little faith in Justin. He let down himself and more importantly, his team with his selfishness and just outright stupidity. Not exactly the kind of guy we want leading our team to battle. I'm willing to give the kid a second chance, but how in the hell do you do that stuff when a new coach is going to be announced? How f'ing stupid can you be?

Sander's comments make me also believe that Willis is taking care of business and will be back on the team.

My thoughts on a couple positions up for grabs

Pony Warrior is right in the fact that there will be alot of freshman playing... but not thaaaat many

Logan Turner will not play next year unless there is an injury. The starting QB spot will be between Willis and Mitchell.

WR: Aldrick Robinson & Em Sanders wont be leaving the game much. Drewery, Zimmerman, Bryant, and Whittingtons will most likely be in rotation (Look for B.J. Lee to be our return guy)

LB: Why has no one mentioned Odiari? He is a starter

CB: Look for at least one freshman to grab one of these spots.

OL and DL: I think you are all going to be very surprised but we are going to be seeing some freshman play these positions. At least 3.

Which CB spot is a freshman going to grab? I am fairly confident that McCann, Bell and McElroy/Crosby will man the three (nickel) CB spots. And yes, that should be a good group. There may be some more opportunity at Safety where I'll pencil Rock in at one spot, but the other is up for grabs...haven't heard much at all about Bailey this spring, other than he "looks" the part.

I think JWill will start the Rice game. But as the season progresses and we get chances to try out other QB's such as Mitchell and Turner i think eventually Mitchell will win over the starting position. After watching his video and looking over his stats and hearing JJ ( who knows a good qb when he sees one) say that he is the most accurate Qb he has seen on tape, i have full faith that he will pick up the system and be our starter

Mitchell will be redshirted if Willis comes back and there are no injuries. Absolutely silly to waste a year on playing a true freshman when you're best player is a Junior QB.

JW made a series of huge mistakes. I agree and was very disappointed as a fan. Get over it.

I want to win for a change and he gives us the best chance to win at the QB position. If Logan or anyone else were better I would want them. They're not even close. I want to win!

To the UH/JJ followers, Mitchell needs to sit and develop for at least a year. Very few QB's start successfully as true freshmen(THAT INCLUDES 5 STARS) at the D1 level and Bo's head coach at Katy has been quoted as saying the same about Bo needing to sit for a year.
