one more preview of CUSA teams

Postby indianmustang » Wed Jul 30, 2008 12:43 am

IF EVERYTHING GOES WELL.... Really, a turnaround similar to 0-12 to 9-4 is possible. SMU could put it all together, overachieve and end up bowling in 2008. 7-5 could happen even with the relatively tough schedule.

This is the hardest team to predict in the conference for that reason.
Preseason Newcomer of the Year:
QB Logan Turner, SMU

If Jones has a good offensive year, would not one of our receivers and QB have a shot at all conference? It is odd that we have potentially the most explosive offense in the conference but no preseason all conference picks.

It's all "maybe" and "if" at this point. Not worthy of all-conference picks without some performance history.

We only have one proven quality receiver. We have a guy in Robinson who is poised to become the second. Hopefully, Haynes can become a third. The freshman I believe will eventually get recruited over-they will play-not sure they will excell. Tulsa has about 8 quality receivers. Don't think SMU should be mentioned in comparison to Tulsa as far as explosive offenses.

8 quality receivers...hyperbole again. Please name their 8 proven quality receivers. I will even let you count Charles Clay as a receiver even though he is listed as a RB.

Drewery should become a quality receiver. You can't teach size.

I am 6'5"-6'6" and yet no one wanted me to play WR, size is not everything

RECEIVING GP-GS No. Yds Avg TD Long Avg/G
---------------------------------------------------------
Johnson, Trae 13-5 67 1039 15.5 11 51 79.9
Clay, Charles 13-9 58 955 16.5 6 53 73.5
Marion, Brennan 13-6 39 1244 31.9 11 75 95.7
Meyer, Jesse 13-4 34 488 14.4 2 35 37.5
Toliver, Dion 13-5 34 392 11.5 1 49 30.2
Clemons, Cameron 13-4 26 256 9.8 5 24 19.7
Adams, Tarrion 13-6 26 244 9.4 2 25 18.8
Williams, Jamad 13-7 6 70 11.7 0 22 5.4
Grooms, Kyle 13-6 5 52 10.4 1 14 4.0
Whitmore, A.J. 13-1 3 15 5.0 1 15 1.2
Johnson, Clay, Marion, Meyer, Tolliver especially have All CUSA recognition ability. Plus add in the Highly recruited BCS Transfers in Slick Skelly from Tennessee and is it Williams from Arkansas. Whitemore was only a freshman last year but was highly recruited. Take a close look at catches, yards, ypc and TDs and Tulsa is loaded two deep.

So Jamad Williams caught 6 more balls and the same number of TDs (0) than I did - guess I am considered a quality WR as well.

he's actually a RB which got pasted when I transferred so is Torrion Adams. Nevetheless Tulsa is 8 deep in quality receivers.

I will give you Johnson, Clay Marion, Meyer, Toliver, that is only 5.
Clemons was a SR last year so I dont think he is playing again this year.
Adams Willimas, Grooms are all RB or non-factors
Whitmore while being highly recruited has nothing to do with being "established" as you put it same goes for Shelly how many catches does he have in NCAA games...0? Granted they could become excellent receivers but you said they had 8 established receivers, which is hyperbole. You always try to make it look like we are up against some monsters when the truth is we just plain suck most of the time.

Well with 8 quality receivers, I am guessing they have 22 quality lineman, 6 TEs, 3 deep snappers, and at least 4 K/Ps on the roster. I have not looked as thoroughly as he has.

Don't forget the 18 towel girls and that they are most likely 3-deep at the guys/gals that retrieve the kicking tee.
