I'm disappointed like everybody else that JW is not our starter. My initial reaction was, "there goes the season".

Looking back over the last few months, JJ has repeatedly said that he needs a QB that is first and foremost accurate. He also said he needs someone who can read and get rid of the ball quickly. That is the nuts and bolts of JJ's infamous "system".

I think it is pretty clear from last year's play that JW's happy feet and his inability to get through his progressions was a problem. Who knows if that was the offense or the offensive line? It is a fact though that we saw too many times where the pocket collapsed and JW threw on the run and had to make too many plays with his athleticism. Was that a great thing or his inability to make the right decision at the right time?

Does that fit in with what JJ expects? Isn't his offense designed to get rid of the ball in 3 seconds and let the athleticism of the receiver/runner make the play?

JJ's system needs a smart QB that can read defenses, understand alignments, and know everyone's assignment. Basically manage the game and make good decisions. From the practice or two I saw, JW looked lost and threw a few more bad balls (in accuracy and reading) than our freshman duo. A few coverage sacks from not making the right read and not getting rid of the ball.

Although I'm terrified that we will have a freshman QB on the field, it is nice to know that the QB behind center understands the system (more than anyone else right now) and gets rid of the ball quickly.

I really hope that having a QB like BLM or BS who understands the system will work out better from day one than a great, athletic QB that knows "most" of the system then requires his athleticism to get us out of trouble.

Give me consistent, accurate, and smart to win this race.

He will definitely say the whole "building for the future" bit the day after the last game of the regular season when we are all once again ready to put another dismal season behind us and pondering whether Tulsa or UCF will win the C-USA Championship. That's what they all say in this situation. (Even Saban said it.) And it will be at this time that, once again, the talk about "next year" will start to creep its way into the posts on Ponyfans. And I will go back into hibernation again until mid-August (after watching LSU beat the crap out of some Big 10 team in another BCS bowl game, of course.)

Brother Stallion. How many college level games have you coached compared to June Jones?
I think his record for assessing talent speaks for itself.
Thanks for your posts...they are good comic relief.
