Yes, the defense is a huge question mark. But, again, the subject was which QB gives us the best chance of winning. To me, you gotta go with Bo. And that's shocking. And therefore those of us who said otherwise at the beginning of the year are wrong and owe an apology to pony warrior.
Tap, tap. Is this on?

There were a TON of people, including every national publication I saw, who openly and repeatedly questioned starting Bo over Justin.

and rightfully so... picking a true freshmen over a QB with [insert justin willis stats here] and in 2006 who was 1 win away from going to a bowl game. I trust JJ decision making, but it doesn't mean that I would have made the same decision.

And as to what I expected with Bo starting, I expected none of the maturity, pocket presence, accuracy and general grasp of this new offense. I expected panicky play. In short I expected the kind of play you'd expect from lightly recruited, low ranked, undersized guy -- the kind of play we've gotten from every other quarterback around here (other than Justin Willis) since Ramon Flanigan.

I agree. And we were wrong my friend. Which is my entire point.
I'm out.

That is one man's opinion, and it assumes something about what Willis would have done had he been starting. An assumption that I do not share.
I wanted Willis as the starter too, and I, for one, do not owe any apologies to anyone for that.

I think regardless of who was QB, JW or BLM, SMU would be 1-1 right now and 1-3 two weeks from now.
The answer to the JW-BLM riddle will be determined during conference play, but so far, BLM has done an excellent job and JJ looks pretty good with his QB decision.

[quote="Nacho"]Willis would have done better against Rice and would have beaten TSU also.[/quot

I never saw JW throw 3 ints in one game. JW is a good QB. Without those 3 ints and a fumble we might have had a chance against Rice. JW could beat a d-1aa team in his sleep.

Ok, for the sake of argument, let's give you Rice. Would Willis have done better than Mitchell did against Texas State: 24-of-37 for 370 yards and 5 touchdowns? I'd submit that there were five to seven throws Willis couldn't have made because he doesn't have the same arm strength or accuracy.

Justin Willis had a 94.5% completion rate and 5 TDs in a similiar situation against similiar opposition and playing as a freshman. Go look at what the Baylor true Freshman QB and the TCU QB did against similar competition. Not a very good yardstick but the good news is that Mitchell will get every opportunity to prove himself in the next 10 days. Most of these D1AA teams don't have athletes to run with D1A schools-and I know the guy covering especially Robinson was outclassed-or out-Divisioned if you will.
