One word, which my TE brother said from heaven tonite as he watched
down on our winning catch to make it 38 - 37 after the PAT.

I assume there were a significant number of dropped passes and some were key drops. Who were the receivers involved?

Beasley dropped a wide-open touchdown pass in the end zone that hit him in the hands. Sanders dropped a pass (again wide-open) to give us a first down and continue the same drive in the last minute or so of the game. Rock Dennis dropped several potential interceptions.

Yes and No.

Beasley dropped the game winner. Slapped him right in the palms of his hands. Poor kid's got to be hating life this a.m. A real shame because otherwise he had a great game.

The pass to Sanders was overthrown to the outside, while Sanders had his body turned inside. Sanders was open, but while it was technically catchable, the receiver had to make a twisting adjustment to catch it, which is bloody difficult when wearing shoulder pads. I saw it as either a bad pass from Bo or poor communication between QB and receiver. In either case, a sorry end to an otherwise good performance by the O.

If you want to talk drops, in addition to the gimme that Rock dropped (which may have altered the score by as much as +14 for SMU), don't forget the 3 or 4 'go' routes down the left sideline that Robinson missed. All were potential touchdowns. I think all of them could have been adjusted to and caught.

ponyte, you also missed the stellar running of Chris Butler. He, along with some good runs by McKinney AND A SUPRISINGLY HARD-RUNNING DeMyron Martin, made a huge difference! Just a guess, but the average yards per carry had to be better than 8. I know Bulter's average was close to 10 YPC. Damn I hope he's O.K.

If my memory serves - I don;t think we had any drops on offense until the last two. The Rock Dennis dropped intercept was killer - it hit him right in the numbers.

On the other hand, both McCann's pics were awesome! Maybe we can get one of our biology profs to clone him.

I had tried to block the Robinson passes from my mind, I guess. Butler looked phenomenal, and I hope he heals quickly. Scary seeing him on crutches on the sideline with his knee wrapped. I will say that Martin did a great job filling in at the end of the game. Best I've seen him run in ages.

I always thought Butler was a good back. I am glad to see he had a recognizable good game. Seems he has a knee injury. When did that occur? 4th quarter?

How was the D other than some dropped turnover opportunities?

3rd Quarter.

Was playing very very well.

Actually all three backs played very very well for the most part.

We gave up a lot of yards, but had 2 picks by McCann. We also forced a fumble on a punt. Darrius Bell had the hit of the season when he took out a receiver on a screen he read perfectly. Also, I think we had some good holds from inside the 20 - forced a couple of field goals and had a pick in the end zone. The D also gave up big hunks of yard on plays. Some of TDs we gave up were long ones.

I will say this about Tulsa - they had the best play fakes of any team I've seen in a long time.

The D held Tulsa's great offense to settle for field goals 3 times
saving 12 points, and keeping us in the game. They eventually were
overwhelmed, and allowed 602 yards which is a little above the
Hurricane's average per game.

Yup, I gotta agree to "best play fakes I've seen in a long time" :!: They
were fun to watch while they were beating you. I had the feeling
we could've been up by 3 TDs in the 4th, and I would've still been
nervous.

all 3 RBs ran tougher and harder than they have in any game this year-it was Nite and Day. Something got their attention. We can win some games with that kind of consistent running game in the Run and Shoot. Also I think SMU played hard for 4 Quarters. I also think Tulsa had to execute a great throw/catch to beat us. Good teams do that.

Positives: We looked like a totally different team compared to the one that played Texas State. Special teams play was very good, the offensive line continues to improve - run blocking especially, and the defensive backs actually looked for the ball sometimes. That little Cole Beasley is pretty good - notwithstanding the drop in the end zone. Jones is running the ball more and it is paying off. Defense at least got some stops when we needed them. This game was the first glimpse of what Jones can do as a play caller. He had Tulsa guessing and guessing wrong a bunch tonight - fun to watch.

Negatives: Defensive backs still don't look for the ball most of the time and they still allow receivers to catch the ball and then try to tackle them (suggestion, when you are playing behind a receiver who is 35 yards downfield, don't let them catch the ball - at least knock the receiver down and take the penalty), Bo Levi still throws too many home run balls into double and triple coverage, linebackers are out of position way too much, Bo Levi throws way too many balls that puts his receivers in position to get killed, and that damn announcer made a big deal of Bo Levi not having an interception through 3 quarters so guess what? Interception two series later that led to Tulsa taking the lead..............
