Re: Starting a new traditionBand guys and gals cannot start this tradition because they are PLAYING the national anthem. If the fans want to start this, it will be up to them. Personally, and maybe I'm a bit old fashioned about this, I do not like bastardizing the national anthem.
I also think there are already plenty of traditions carried on by the band that none of the fans do with them currently. Why don't we start by doing some of them. Sing Pony Battle Cry, Sing Varsity, attend every game to the last second regardless of whether the team is winning or losing. Those are the traditions I'd like to see for starters.
Re: Starting a new traditionTHE ROCK SAYS...
I LIKE THE IDEA. I CERTAINLY UNDERSTAND YOUR POINTS ABOUT BASTARDIZING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM, BUT I DONT THINK IT WOULD BE THAT BIG OF A DEAL. I THINK IT WOULD BE A NEAT WAY TO SHOW OUR SUPPORT. ------------------ CAN YOU SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKIN'? CAN YOU SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKIN'?
Re: Starting a new traditionbut how can we advertice this sort of thing. who is gonna take the initiative to put flyers up? even if all the members of ponyfans.com know about it, that is only a small (very small) percentage of the fans in attendance...great idea though...maybe have the cheerleaders hold up HUGE signs that say MUSTANGS when everyone would be singing "brave."?

Re: Starting a new traditionI like that idea, PonyJim. Have them hand up a Mustangs sign when the words get to ...and the home of the...

Re: Starting a new traditionNow I don't go to SMU but I want to! but I have been around SMU all my life! and I use to go to all the Stars games to! and we would always scream stars when the said stars like he said and I would think it would be a great idea to do that! just we need to get to tell people to do that!

Re: Starting a new traditionHow about we start winning before we start kissing Doak's shoes. I don't know about ya'll, but if we start a tradition and then lose a lot of games next year, it probably wouldn't be that great a tradition (or great luck).
Re: Starting a new traditionTo MustangLobo07....I would have thought that September 11th would have instilled a little more respect and pride in you for the stars and stripes and the National Anthem....grow up! Perhaps a little time in one of the branches of our armed forces would help get the point across to you. Many lives have been lost in wars defending our country, our flag and what it stands for....these lives were not given up so that we could use the National Anthem to promote your favorite sports team!!!! There are thousands of ways to support our teams without involving the inappropriate use of our National Anthem. Everyone needs to drop this bad idea NOW!
[This message has been edited by PK (edited 04-15-2002).] SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Starting a new traditionWell why don't u think of a better idea and we will!

Re: Starting a new traditionwell if u can find a better one tell us! and we will!
Mustangs Rule! Never forget 1938!
Re: Starting a new traditionwell since u think you can come up with a better one why don't we hear it!?

Re: Starting a new traditionMy question is how did a topic from two years ago resurface this week? Also, how come Mustanglobo's sentences do not make sense?
Re: Starting a new traditionPK you have got to be the most annoying poster...spare us all. How about this for a traditon....we acknowledge the #1 house on campus and instead of having a Mustang on both sides of the helmet we put a big PIKE sticker on one side.
Re: Starting a new traditionPike best house on campus? Not quite sure...Maybe house composed of the most members with frosted tips. Maybe cheesiest house. Perhaps even house that wish they played football at SMU but were never good enough...But not best house on campus. That would have to go to the Theta house....Oh wait, Pike is a frat? All those guys spend so much time on their hair, I logically assumed they were chicks.

Re: Starting a new traditionIt would be hard for the Pikes to play FB at SMU, given that they didn't play in high school (you know, before the 'roids).
Give them a break, it's hard to go from volleyball to football. The only thing going for them is the incredible football knowledge that comes with the juice. What a wonderful drug, both brains and body?! I'm Mike Lowery!
