Re: For those interested Jeffcoat committed to Texas today
Almost half of my family went to Texas so I have a soft spot in my heart for them. We are absolutely no threat to them in any way at this point. Hating them seems a bit trivial.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Our best chance to compete against UT is in BB and we all know how that is turning out.

our best chance to be a legit national power in a revenue is hoops, but as you said, tough to see that right now.SoCal_Pony wrote:Our best chance to compete against UT is in BB and we all know how that is turning out.

My parents met at UT so if it weren't for that school, I wouldn't be here. Therefore, I root for UT. That being said - SMU comes first and foremost and if we ever play them in a real sport again, I hope we score 10 times what they do.PonyDoh wrote:I'll never ever understand an SMU undergrad or alum having love for any old SWC foe. I don't care if we recruit against them now, play against them, or not. The best result of a A$M/UT game is the stadium imploding.

Ok, I'll buy extenuating circumstances like yours. Your family gets a pass from any stadium implosionCalallenStang wrote:My parents met at UT so if it weren't for that school, I wouldn't be here. ...or we can send those two cowboys on our geldings down there to corral ole Bevo.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I am just glad Jeffcoat decided to go to Texas and not follow his dad to Houston.
Re: For those interested Jeffcoat committed to Texas today
Just because an SMU alum hates UT doesn't necessarily mean that he thinks they are our rival. One has nothing to do with the other.StallionsModelT wrote:Almost half of my family went to Texas so I have a soft spot in my heart for them. It's just bizarre to some of us that other SMU alums who seems passionate about our school's athletic teams would come on to this board in order to play rah-rah for UT. There are plenty of other boards on the internet to do that. So that's what should seem trivial to you.
I grew up a huge UNC basketball fan, but I went to SMU, and I wouldn't ever go on to the basketball forum on Ponyfans to pump up the Tarheels. Just another perspective, my friend.

You're right, but I thought that was a closely guarded secret.SoCal_Pony wrote:No need for geldings....we have PerunaPK wrote:...or we can send those two cowboys on our geldings down there to corral ole Bevo.

Many of us complained about the University's reaction to tje "death penalty," supported a lawsuit against the NCAA that would have possibly allowed us to do discovery into the rampant cheating taking place at UT and elsewhere, and opposed A. Kenneth Pye's insistence that SMU football operate on what was essentially a club sport level. We were told to shut up and not make waves.Stallion wrote:We are less likely to have a recruiting battle with UT or play UT than just about any team in the country. Haven't had a recruiting battle with UT in decades. Its an imaginery rivalry-get over it. You can pretend its 1980 but its not. If you wanted to be competing against UT a lot more of should have opened your mouth and complained when Ken Pye decided to play Ivy League Football rather than compete at the highest levels of College Football.

Topper- how well I remember. I will never forget the pain and frustration caused by the refusal to move forward with that lawsuit. I was willing to donate far beyond my means to fight that battle.I was never so ashamed of being from SMU as I was during that period. IMHO had we gone with the lawsuit we would have never received the DP- but of course that is all conjecture.
