It was really interesting listening to what Dave Bliss had to say. Talking about how it can become easy to rationalize what you're doing, even if you lose your integrity in the process.

"He was quoting the Bible, Revelations. 'Behold the pale horse.' The man who 'sat on him was Death... and Hell followed with him.'"

"You tell 'em I'm coming... and hell's coming with me!"

It was a very moving, sometimes uncomfortable, sometimes inspiring, interview. The guy ruined life for himself as he knew it. But he was man enough to get in front of that crowd and showed incredible humility. I left very affected by the experience and wish Dave Bliss well. He is a good man who in his own words "panicked" and abandoned all principles.

Does a good man really abandon all principles? Isn't it more likely that the true character of a man comes out during adverse times?

"Any man can stand adversity...if you want to test a man's character...give him power." --Abe Lincoln

Adversity is what he's going thru now. Power is what gave rise to his problem. And like all men in power they make compromising decisions to retain that power. He's not the 1st or the last.

His latest remarks seem sincere and more likely represent his true character rather than the 'successful leader' who lost his way.

He tried to cover his [deleted], that's life. I don't necessarily think he's a bad guy, but I don't buy how he's cloaked himself in Christianity either. That's like the American get out of jail free card, and every publicist knows it. He spent his whole career being shady not just the Denehy situation.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

Maybe so. Having seen him in person I choose to believe his story of genuine contrition.
