Signing non-rated( read: unknown) kids early doesn't send a strong message out there for potential or already rated high 3 Star, 4 Star and ahem ( yes am reaching here).....5 Star interest at SMU. We had a strong 2011 class, lets ride the wave and not just .....settle. Maybe this kid would have signed on way late before signing day. Just saying we should lead with some strong anchors as the first recruits to commit.

This one made me put down my cigar. First, do you really think the coaches don't want to sign highly regarded recruits. Their efforts in CA alone suggests that is not the case. Secondly, our first commitment came from a highly regarded three star athlete. Finally, some of our most productive players did not receive that much attention in high school. Let's run JG, Taylor Reed, Line, and Pardon out of town because they didn't have enough stars out of high school.

I wanted to comment on what ponyscott said as well because i didn't agree with it in the least bit. I just wasn't sure what I wanted to say. It's not like you can force the kids to commit to SMU. There has to be mutual interest. Also, it bothers me when people say "sign". These kids are only commits and can't sign until february.

Stewart ,besides showing a lot of athletic ability on the video, also apparently has 4.4 speed in the 40.

We have a bunch of offers out. Any player can committ anytime they want. This prospect committed and others haven't. SMU has no control over when a player committs.

Phil Bennett tried the 'coach em up' routine and that didn't work over the long term. Reap the harvest when you can. We have HS coaches that chime in on here on PF that suggest that the coaches maybe aren't after the Texas top recruits as they maybe should or could be....

SMU has some really great fans that understandably are very anxious for SMU to return to the ranks of relevant football again. However, it seems like some of the faithful are a few years ahead of where SMU actually is today (in terms of recruiting attraction). Personally, I don't expect many top recruits (high 3's and 4's) to pick SMU as his first choice; rather, I hope that in the end SMU emerges as his best choice. For that to happen, dominos have to fall and other programs have to start to take shape before Mr. 4-star realizes that his best choice is to attend SMU as a starter rather than be the 4-deep at OU (for example). Hopefully within five years or so SMU will come out of the gates as the top choice for many highly coveted players. I just don't seem them being there just yet. So enjoy the ride, SMU will get there.

true. these things take time and we're signing better classes every year. the last time we recruited better than this, we were overtly buying players.

After watching that video, I'm not too concerned about his stars/ranking. He looks real fast with outstanding balance. It might not be the best level of competition, nor can I tell how big the kid is, but the athleticism is obviously there.

It's still early in the process. I'm sure this guy will get more recognition in the coming months.

Still not even a mention on rivals about the commitment. Their coverage really has been slipping recently. Go Ponyfans.

If you think Rivals has been bad, Scout has been down right dreadful. This is the one time of year that there should be tons of information with Spring ball and recruits starting to make moves, yet both services are slipping.

Oh, for God's sake, cool it on ripping Scout and Rivals.

If you're definition of having something new on their home page every 6-8 hours, then you're either unrealistic with your expectations or spoiled brats. I'll lean to the latter for some of you.

I read the site and feel like I'm caught up to date on recruiting. They had a story on the Crockett kid being there.

As for the commitment, maybe Rivals can't get it confirmed yet and is having trouble reaching the kid or his coach. Why report what you don't have confirmed on your end.

Look the Rivals guys said they were going to be out this weekend. Yes, I'm sorry that some of you were probably upset that they didn't cover the OVER RATED SPRING GAME, WHICH WASN'T A SPRING GAME ANYWAY.

But give these guys a break. They have lives to lead too. I'm fine with them taking some time off here and there. Have to re-charge the batteries.

Mitch, you make me chuckle. You used to come on here and belittle everyone that subscribed to the other services for their waste of time and money when they could get it all just by waiting a couple of days and reading Ponyfans. Now you chastise if anyone says anything bad about them. I will grant you that you made mention of this in another post, admitting that you used to think they were not worth the cost, but I think you could let up a little on those that do not partake or have issues with either since it is just their opinion.

Personally I dropped Scout last year and I am dropping Rivals this year. I do not have the time to enjoy the pay sites for what they have to offer. About all I can do is read the threads a couple of times a day, and I can spend $200 better. This year I gave the $200 to the Mustang Club instead. I have nothing but praise for the 2 sites and have told them both I will probably be back when I retire and have time to appreciate their hard work. In the mean time I will continue to get both my current news and my delayed news from Ponyfans.

You obviously have no idea what is going on with the SMU Scout site.

And I do have the right to expect information because I PAY for it. Would you be happy if they didn't deliver the DMN or WSJ? Oh that's right, you're protesting the DMN b/c of their SMU coverage. Keep up the good fight, your lost $100/year in revenue will break them any second now.

I pay for the recruiting services to help our recruiting efforts more than I do for the information. I like that recruits are being called about SMU, asked about SMU and given the illusion the "media" cares about SMU. But if they aren't posting articles they aren't talking to recruits, so at that point I'd rather spend my money on a hangover.

Wow - aren't you the same guy who used to rip everything rivals said? Why the change of heart? Are you now a subscriber? Employee? Both?
