A real irony would be if the MWC-CUSA combo were given AQ status on account of all the state colleges involved.

What does that have to do with anything? The Sunbelt and WAC are made up entirely of state schools.

First person in three generations not to go to UT. Didn't know anything about SMU. Grew up hating Arkansas and A&M

Of course it will be a big disappointment.
They'll wake up and realize they're still North Texas State Vocational School and they're still in Denton.
I know I'd be disappointed.

Wanted out of Austin and SMU was first to accept me with scholarship funds. That's why I match dollar for dollar between athletics and general fund

Good addition IMO. Similar to SMU attendance wise. Would solidify the DFW triangle with TCU on top and SMU/UNT anchoring the bottom two corners.
Didn't UNT recently turn down the WAC?
BTW, major cudos on the BE invy. More resources and Eastern exposure should keep the admin interested in football. We never played a game there yet the NY papers gave us big love. Good things. Really wanted that league to work out with us in it. Oh well..

Believe it or not, I think it would be good of SMU and TCU if UNT actually got a bit better. A triangle of rivalries could be fun for the area and just increase exposure and media attention for all three schools. I know many people here think lowly of UNT, but I went on a campus tour last week for my younger brother (who I am still urging to go to SMU :p ) and I was pretty impressed. Sure the campus isn't nearly as nice but the there was a fun sense of school spirit. Everyone was wearing green, the student body seems down to earth, and they are putting resources and attention into their football program, not unlike us a few years ago. The only reason to want them to stay down is because of fear that they may rise and beat us - hey, I think I heard UT say similar things against us.

I don't know if UNT will be on CUSA/MWC's radar at all.. but they could be... and TV is why.
Simply put, the conferences will continue to steal teams, add teams, merge, etc. until there are just a few mega-conferences out there. The prime factor in putting all these conferences together will be television and TV markets. This area is blessed with 3 division I schools that could allow 3 conferences to have some interest in this market.
Ultimately, I think these mega-conferences will be grouped like they are now: BCS and non-BCS.
The BCS conferences may up and leave the NCAA and go do their own thing with a playoff and TV. So the question for those conferences will be how much do they really need some kind of toe-hold in this market? Maybe UNT will fit that bill for a conference.

I'm new....please don't beat on me too bad. I'm not into the hate SMU thing. I would like to think that we have a good chance of getting an invite to CUSA but I remain pessimistic about it. It's no secret that we are used to under achievement and disappointment at UNT. I think it's great that SMU has positioned themselves to move up to the BE.....congrats. I think that if June sticks around your football team will be able to compete in that conference. Hopefully you folks can get the Dallas area a little more interested....the last two years shows you deserve it. Right now we can't compete in the belt so I'm not going to be too upset if we end up stuck here a little longer.

The fact that UNT doesn't dominate that conference yearly is pathetic. They are in the best recruiting hotbed of any SB school and get donkeypunched on a consistent basis. Awful.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Agreed, not sure what our problem is. The Dodge years didn't help but I don't want to get on that subject. I'm not sure what this new coach is going to do but here's to hoping.

Why UNT? BEautiful new stadium, Huge alumni base, similar fan attendance with potential for much higher, Super Pit compared to Moody Col, Presence to Dallas ,Tarrant, Grayson counties, all upside compared to say SMU who has been to the big-time and blew it but trying to return to it with a small fan base with much indifference by its alumni base and citizens of Dallas area. Huge potential with UNT, Texas State and UT-San Antonio with all due respect to SMU and Rice's distant glorious past in SWC.
